1400+ mile load. Earliest the customer is open is Monday 9am. So I have 50 hours to delivery what only needs 44 hours (24 hour drive plus two 10hr breaks). I'll be taking a 34hr reset afterwards as I only have 30hrs on it.
What would you drive? Three sets of 8 hours with two 10hr breaks OR two sets of 10.5 hours and an additional 3 hours with two 10hr breaks?
Three 8s or Two 11s and Change?

Three sets of 8 means you get to skip a 30 minute break each day, which would technically save you time.
But I tend to prefer running as many miles as possible as it gives more leeway and flexibility in case of a random breakdown.
So I guess my answer is 2 longer shifts and a 3rd short one. Lower odds of something going wrong 3 hours out from your delivery than 8 hours out on day 3.Numb, kemosabi49, Arctic_fox and 1 other person Thank this. -

That’s how it goes for some reason. And it’ll be the one day that the blown drive tire that should’ve taken an hour to fix ends up taking 10 cause 3 techs called in sick and there’s 7 others in line before ya and the company doesn’t want to use the Mom and Pop tire shop up the roadArctic_fox Thanks this.

Right? Or you just serviced your truck. Everything looks great. Got brand new tires on and absolutely nothing could go wrong and then suddenly.
One of your primary coolant lines you literally just had replaced 2 weeks ago goes pop and because the spare you had was just SLIIIIIIIGHLY too small dispite being the exact same hose as whats on there and rips as you try to force it anyway. There are of course no ubers or lyfts nearby so your forced to wait 3 hours for loves to get a tech out with a peice of hose and 13 gallons of coolant. And he brings out the wrong hose. Goes back gets the right hose comes back realizes he brought green coolant instead of red goes back, only brings 5 gallons goes back gets 5 more, runs out again and is forced to go back for 5 more. And you get rolling 6 hours later with basically your whole clock shot and down about $100077fib77, Thrasher28 and MACK E-6 Thank this. -
And then you have poor @LowBeam out in the middle of nowhere on 76 in CO and his truck suddenly goes haywire.

That’s a brutal day. I appreciate you keeping my daily urge to go O/O in check. An unpaid down day in the bunk as a company driver doesn’t sound too bad in comparisonNumb, Speedy356, Arctic_fox and 1 other person Thank this.

It has its moments lol. There are days where its awsome. Then there are days where its not. I still have extreme parinoia of any road that merges onto a highway and expect every #### car to just charge out now. Especially honda vans. I do NOT take my eyes off those #### things.MACK E-6 and Thrasher28 Thank this.
