Hey all I was in California on Monday and got caught in a speed trap. Cop claimed I was doing 68mph. I know for a fact I was not going that fast. I was running along with the flow of traffic, which was very heavy at the point this occurred. Traffic was moving maybe 63 or so. I was behind a flatbed that had just passed me and had several trucks behind me also,I was bobtail. They were shooting laser, I was not concerned with my speed in the least so I was a little shocked when they came after me. The cop that wrote the ticket said he was not the one that shot me that "the other guy did". He also asked if I had "one of those trucker lawyers", I said no and he said well you can contest this by mail. That is not going to work for me,I know I'm going to need some representation. Can anybody recommend a course of action and/or a lawyer or service that could help me. My record is spotless so needless to say I'm a little upset by this. I haven't had a ticket since 1999 and that was in my personal vehicle. Thanks for any advice or words of wisdom, it will be much appreciated.

Not to rub salt in the wound, but by your own admission you were about 8 over the speed limit.
California is death on speeding trucks.
right, wrong or indifferent, they rarely let you off on a speeding ticket, especially when you consider how much they depend on the money for the CHP's operating budget.
That being said, you might speak with one of the lawyers on the billboards.
You likely will not escape. They will easily plead it down to 59 for you, but it's still a conviction.
Anymore, the citing officer does not have to be the one that witnessed the incident. But if you go to court, the one that operated the laser, radar, etc. is the one that must appear and testify.
California has a habit of 'rescheduling' your court date if the officer doesn't appear.
    good luck.

    I concur....my fingers are tired....so I concur!:biggrin_2558:

There you go...a second opinion! One change...the monies from citations go to the county of issue...a $10.00 State fee is tacked on for the State.

When I'm in California, I just do like I did in the old days in Ohio, set the cruise to 58mph and chill.

I meant I wasn't concerned in that I was not going fast enough to warrant any attention,I'm well aware of the mistake but thanks for pointing it out anyway Moose. It was on I-10 headed east a few miles after the Banning Scales. Ticket says Riverside Co.
