New Jersey has an "Unsafe Operation of a Motor Vehicle" charge that they can plead most any moving violation to if you haven't used it in the last two years I believe it is.

Its no points but costs just under $500 when all is said and done. The fine itself is $250.

I had a careless ticket from a minor (bent a lady's license plate and cracked her bumper cover) fender bender but it was in a "must ticket" township.

That would have been an $85 fine and two points, instead I plead to the Unsafe and paid the higher costs with no points... Except it got reported to Delaware as Careless and that is showing on my MVR, from NJ who has no record of a Careless conviction in NJ... Trying to get it removed has been a royal PITA... Will he gone in another 1 1/2 years and my current carrier is good with it. I have the papers from the court that shows the actual adjudication.

Left lane is a major violation. Getting it turned into most any other charge could prevent a mandatory 60 day vacation in the next three years.
