I slept at a loves in morriliton AR last week. As I was getting ready to leave a prime truck came in the exit side and had the whole lot all jacked up. There was two of them in the truck. Don't know if it was a team or a training truck. The passenger got out and tried to ground guide the driver into a 3 wide trucking spot. I thought he was going to hit my trailer. I thought he was trying to back up to the center of my trailer like it was a dock. That is the angle that he was at and about 6 foot away from me. The guy on the ground was screaming and cussing at him. He got worse everytime he pulled up. Finally they switched places and the other driver dropped it right in there.

I will have to say that this is the 1st time I have not heard drivers cussing on the radio. A few said hey, let me by you, I got to go or get fuel and you are going to be here all day trying to park, but all the drivers was polite. Guess they figured his partner was cussing at him enough.:biggrin_2556:

Sounds like the trainee was oversteering... a common problem; i'd be even better as a driver if I'd oversteer less often!

The yelling and cussing by the trainer doesn't help at all. That seems to be a common thread with driving trainers - something about yelling makes the instructional process work better. It doesn't. It actually impedes the learning process, and builds a wall between the trainer and the trainee.

I was at the Nestle plant in Springville, UT a couple of evenings ago picking up a load - nice little drop n' hook exercise. A trainer/trainee pair I'd ran into at the yard up in Salt Lake City managed to put their rig into the employee parking lot! They were trying to extract it when I left... no room to manuever, and way too many four-wheelers parked there! Don't know how they managed that... the signs are lit, and mighty direct - "Employee Parking No Trucks" and a "Trucks" sign with an arrow that points in a different direction down to the guard shack.

Entering into the exit side did not help his situation any. I am not sure that this was a training truck.

Hey S&L thsnks for the great honest post. I am now looking at going back to OTR. I have been away for almost 10 years and am a building contractor in FL. Housing is in the dirt and my family has to eat so I am shutting the doors and going back to work. I am looking at Prim or Wil-Trans. I met with WT 10 years ago when I finished my trucking school and they seemed like a great bunch to work for but in my younger years I was more focused on the big hype I was getting from the company I went with about miles and pay.... needless to say my average stint from home was 40 to 60 days and the famaily and I couldnt take it. I am older and so are the kids so I thnk they will deal with it just fine.... WT is a partner with Prime and I think it will work for me as my bills are growing, I have business experience etc. but I am just nervous about only making 400 to 600 a week before taxes for almost 6 months before I can lease. WT will give me the opportunity if I am ready to move up in about 2 to 3 months. I have been following your posts because in essence if I go with WT it is the same dispatch source etc. I am going to run reefer due to me living in FL an 10 years ago that was the best possible chance to get in/out of FL. Do you have any recommendations for me...(talked to Bronc and he said to pick your brain some...LOL)

    Thanks in advance

Don't fool your self. What your talk about is socail scetury taxes and u pay all of it either way. Company look at the total of your pay as taxes, benfets and salary. So when as you say "pay half "if they didn't it would be money that would or could end up in your poket. Sorry take a politc road just don't like money stolen from me to be only told they give back when i get old after they spent it and don't have any other way to pay me back but yet to steal more money from me or my childeren.

They (Federal government) steal your money then collect the interest off of it from foreign trades and banks and military lease handouts then they give some of it back to you. Same thing applies with the social security robbery system. Why do I have no choice but to pay into something that I know I will not get back when I retire? I want out!:biggrin_2551:

I think there is an opt out clause for social security. I seem to recall reading something years ago regarding this. I believe it had something to do with "religious convictions."

Maybe someone else has heard of this. It may have been someone "pushing the envelope" like the guys claiming the IRS is an illegal institution and paying taxes is "voluntary." These characters make a good argument but ultimately wind up in jail so be careful.

    Medicine Man,
Sorry for the late delay on this but wanted to let you know that Prime WILL lease tractors other than Freightliners. My brother-in-law drives for Prime and was able to get a Peterbilt for his latest lease. Not sure how he managed this, though he has driven for them for over 10 years - which probably makes a difference since Prime believes in "rewarding" its longer term drivers.

    Semi,

Is $1.29 per mile pretty typical? My wife is trying to decide whether to run as a solo lease for the next six months before I join her as a team and would like some numbers to help her decide whether to go lease or company for the next six months.

    Thanks!
