My wife and I leased on to prime in 2003 and turned in our 3rd truck in feb. They keep buying other companies and we wern't getting the revenue that we needed. The last week we had only 4200 miles. The profit after all expences was $141.52. It was like that for the last 6 mos. The other 4 1/2 yrs was pretty good. The bills don't quit so we had to move on. Good luck.

Steve & Lo are hanging out at the Prime forums. It seems he is an administrator and moderator there.

So where did you decide to go? In retrospect do you agree with Steve and Lo that Prime is a good outfit for a lease deal?

Notarps4me, I beg to differ with you on that one. Lease ops have a lot of expences taken out before they receive their pay. First there is the truck lease payment, then the insurance, then the fuel, then there could be any expence for repairs or maintance, then the tire fund, then the emergency fund. The list just goes on, also if you do not send in the macro for the reimbursment of the reef fuel and fuel the trl. within the first 12 hours of picking it up, you pay for the reef fuel also. If the lease operator has a co-driver the co-drivers pay comes out of the revenue for the truck also.
Yes they have to pay their own taxes at the end of the year, the company will not deduct those for them. That creates a problem in it's self. Yes it is basicly self employed, but sometimes the truck expences can out weigh the revenue being paid to the truck, then the driver will not make anything at all or a very small amount. I've been there and done that, and I know what I am talking about.
At least two companies (I have leased from) out here today with lease programs are, giving the heavier loads to the lease ops and saving the lighter loads for the company trucks. Which in turn cost the lease ops more in fuel expence. With the fuel prices as high as they are, a driver is better off being a company driver than leasing.

I know your question was not directed to me, but I would like to put my 2 cents worth in. Yes if you own your own truck, Prime would be a great company to lease it on to. Leasing from them would be a grave mistake unless you are willing and able to be married to that truck! If you go home for any length of time, the truck will drop into the hole and you will have to be back out running hard for a week or two before you can expect any kind of pay check. Prime is just like any other company out there, they have their go points and their bad points, but for the most point they are a alright company to work for. Just be careful of what you do and if you see a time when your truck stays in the hole for what seems like forever, get out while you still have the shirt on your back! If not you may loose your home! Good Luck!

I would say countrycharm05 and Jack5 are the same person just read the post and the names both end in 5 real creative. My son and I run as a team at Prime now and we couldn't be happier. Yes we are making money and we went home for 5 days we just did it the smart way went home on Saturday after doing 2 loads and stayed home until thursday night at 10Pm an came out that week and did 2 loads thus making a good paycheck without going in the hole. Our week goes wednesday thru tuesday at 4PM cst. truck payment comes out on Friday's.

Bottomline some people are cut out to run a business some aren't. And it's obvious who's not.
