    This. Look for regional.

Flatbed can get you home on the weekends, if you dont mind being dirty at the end of the day.

Vic Firth and farmerjohn64 Thank this.

There’s other ways to go trucking besides the OTR mega training carrier route.

Even otr it’s your life, your time. Always communicate with dispatch But give em as much time as possible to route you home. This is your rookie year you need experience but you also don’t want to get burned out. Most companies are understanding after training. When you get on the road build a solid relationship with dispatch if you can. Don’t be a kiss *** but let em know hey man I’m missing home can I get in a few days early if possible. But like others said I’d go local or try to find regional. Since going local I miss the road but you can’t beat home time

Just for the record, I think it is important to remember something. Most carriers EVEN the local and regional ones are losing money for every truck that sits in a yard. Nothing wrong with some home time and generally most carriers will let you have 3 to 4 days with little or no fuss. They want their equipment running! That's the bottom line. ANY driver that enters this industry needs to be able to leave home and do so for up to 3 weeks. This goes back to several comments I have made about YOU the driver cultivating a good relationship with your FM/Dispatcher. This is the key. Most carriers once the trainer signs off on you head out to a terminal where they start the process of getting you assigned to a truck. It's a process, but as has been mentioned already, you got to ask!

Yea my company gets most drivers home every weekend but since I live a little ways away they asked that I do 2 weeks in the truck at a time. I told them ok but I want 3 full days at the house if I do that. No issues so far. After all that's what I was doing with my old company anyway.

The trick to home time is to always leave something wrong with the truck.

And when u get home you are now on layover....not hometime....
Slide the shop guy a 20 and they will take care of the truck being backed up. ;)

    Enjoy your paid hometime.
