Well Boys & Girls, I have no easy way to say this. Texas will not renew my CDL because of my health. My hearing is shot, my blood pressure ain't right, and my boots stink. Got my Class A in 1975. CDL sometime after that. They can't take my friends. I have 17 days till my birthday. Hard to explain, it's all I know. Time marches on. Be careful out there. I will be here after one last run, to Shaky. Got to see the city one more time. San Diego. My three trucks will go to my Grand Daughter. Quit weepin, I ain't dead yet. I will drive to Kroger in my Western Star. My Driver is still running. Guess its time.
Time Marches on

Don't fell bad laddie, I'm in a similar situation, you had many good years and gave 'er heck, now it's time to kick back, go fishin' with no bait on the hook, see some old friends(good for the soul), buy a classic car, you've earned it. The whole time I was trucking, I couldn't wait until I didn't have to do it anymore, and now, I don't miss it at all.Skydivedavec, pattyj and Saddletramp1200 Thank this.

I am trying to get used to waking up in the same place day after day. Don't like it. I was born to chase that white line. My body can't be overhauled. Too many miles on this one. Way it is.

I am honored you are thinking of me. I wish I could convey my thoughts of what you can do with that. Your Wife is sitting beside you so I will stifle my mouth. All I can offer is your mean. Someday it's going to be you.

So what's next for you, Trucker? Pilot car? SafetyMan? Dispatch at a heavyhaul company?

I got my class A in Georgia in 1974, when all it took was my boss (my uncle) said on the form I knew how to handle a big truck.
Still in good health here, but slowing down. I hope you find something worthwhile to fill the day. Try to make a positive impact on others, you are still in better shape that lot's of folks
Good luck. -
Hi Stude, same here, my 1st TT job in the late 70's, I filled out a 3x5 index card, and was on my way. My BP, I think, would exclude me from driving now, as even with meds, it's still borderline. I too have thought of volunteer work (if it only paid better, Ha) my heart just sinks when I see these poor people in tornado situations, that have their lives reduced to toothpicks, and I know they could use drivers or equipment operators to clear the rubble, so these folks can start over. Still haven't ruled that out.NavigatorWife Thanks this.

Hopefully you go from the "time clock" to the "rocking chair" to the "coffin". Some people skip the "rocking chair" and go direct from job to coffin. Ain't no fun !
