The 2.64 would put you at 1150 and the 2.79 at about 1200. I’d go with the 2.64

 

If you say so. Those guys are doing some impressive things with both pre emission and modern motors.

 

I have a Kenworth T800 ( ISX15 )and an International Prostar ( MaxxForce15 )

I like the look and power of the T800 but it’s MILES behind the comfort and fuel mileage of the Prostar. I would definitely get another International if I had a Dedicated highway run but now a days I never know where the truck is going.

 

I drove a Prostar as a loaner when I was with Knight and hated it. This new LT I have is a huge difference between the Prostar. To someone that hasn’t driven one they may say they’re almost the same but I can tell you they aren’t. The LT is a nice truck.
I’ll put a picture of my MPG below since February. When I run it by hand I came up with 8.9. For some reason the ELD is much more accurate than the truck ECM.

 

And another thing, when I was still in training with Knight I read a bunch of old articles written by Bruce in 10-4 magazine. I learned more about how to drive a truck from those articles than I did while training. It’s due to those tips from Bruce I’m able to get the kind of fuel mileage I get.

 

Where I live there is a hill every 5milea so fuel mileage sucks regardless :,(

I guess your choice of horse power depends on the type of loads you’re going to be hauling. If you haul oversized, overweight it’s better to go with 550 hp and above. If you haul the average 80,000 lbs 455 hp would do the job. Also what country zone do you run in. Mountains, etc. Now in my experience I would buy a peterbilt or western star those are my favorite brands for their durability but they can be pricey so it comes down to your budget as well. I would not buy a Freightliner again ever specially stay as far away as possible from DD15 engines if you don’t want to end up as a driver. I heard the pactar engines are really bad too but I don’t have a personal experience with those engines.
