Stick to Logging..Hire Truckers to do the Truckin..Ask any owner operator about what a Big Pile of Money it costs to buy and opperate a truck
We have 2 guys we know are responsible and respectful of our equipment, one of whom owns a truck. He wants to lease on with us but not exactly our cup of tea... We're leaning more towards helping finance him getting restarted hauling for us, and letting him be the trucking company. I have plenty to think about without adding on trucking rules regs and whatnot.
Not exactly accurate, but I see your point. Average here is 4 bucks a mile, longer hauls 3.50 a mile. We're just over market prices by about 10-15% Our primary hauls are 42 miles, 65 miles,105 miles, and 212 miles from this jobsite. First 2 pay 300, 3rd pays 450, last pays 800. We like to do drop and hook turns to keep drivers rolling as there's no money for anyone when they're sitting getting loaded.
I would love to stay in the woods and tip trees over all day long but I still gotta get the logs to the mill to get paid. Show up with 2 log trailers and a truck and I'll help you wear out your tires... I have yards I can deliver to 7 days a week...
Well, our guy with a truck has floated the idea of us financing him to restart his trucking business. Now, we're researching what it'll cost. Insurance, etc. Will he need an authority I know he'll need a DOT number. He's gonna sell his drop deck trailer to get 2 log trailers, or trade... Whatever it takes to make it fly ..
That's what Facebook is for... This forum has elevated itself to actually helping people succeed and roll safe...
