What part of "ALLOWED TO EXCEED YOUR RADIUS 10% OF THE TIME" is hard to understand here??
It's written right in the Progressive Policy and simply not worth my time anymore to debate this any further.....
-
Out of fairness and reading my earlier post I wasn't clear. (do a lot of this on my phone). Every state has a record of when you pass an open scale. So in the case of the driver in CO that I PERSONALLY WITNESSED, he was out of Florida and from what the DOT officer told me, they had him entering CO every two weeks. I don't even need to get my atlas out to know that no matter how you slice it he was outside the 10% provision.
According to my agent, it is the responsibility of the agent to make sure that the insured understands the policy, and if needed, verify the insured is complying. But I am sure most of these sales people, err, agents, would never dream of asking to look at your IFTA filings.
Also learned that Progressive has 4 states they are writing unlimited mileage in. It was based on two factors. First, they had a large carrier that they got business from in these states. Second, they have to feel that they can be competitive. The risk factor for a local driver is much less than an OTR driver. -
So why are you telling people in other threads that you can't get G/L from Progressive and now you have it.
As far as your other post on wasting time, from what I am reading that is all you have. -
After being on the phone all week Progressive is way cheaper than anyone else my guy said that Progressive has never not paid a claim so looks like im just going to stick with what i have

Also i have never heard of any state keeping a record of when you pass an open scale thats just stupid what the hell would a log book before and would have alote more people put OOS
-
Are you kidding?!? Every time you pull into a scale they type your DOT number into computer and it is stored. They can not share it with other states but that information can be used when looking at your logs for last 7 days and if you are being audited they can call a state to check.
A ifnd using prepass this happens anytime your light flashes. -
Bayou - When you started this you talked about wanting to get towing and the limit of the 500 miles. Did you get the towing issue handled? That was a big one for me. I don't just have towing for accident but also for breakdown including coverage to bring fuel, jump, tire change, etc. To be honest it never dawned on me that if I was in a accident that towing would not be covered. I am covered but I guess it just seems strange it wouldn't be covered. Something to remember as I check rates when I renew.
Not sure what your conversation with your agent was. But what struck me was how would he know if Progressive had paid EVERY claim? Now I would believe based on the reputation that they have that they have paid every valid claim. But the issue here is if you do travel outside of your 500 mile zone more than 10% of the time.
First, why would an honest agent tell you that they would pay everyone of these claims? How would he know that unless he came from the claims side of the business?
Second, if you are having the conversation saying that I travel outside the 500 mile zone more than 10% of the time, why would he sell you this policy? Now that may not have been your conversation. But if you are first concerned that you are covered and do travel outside the area more than 10% of the time, I would get it in writing from your agent that you are still covered.
Other thing that came into my head with all this. How do they define the 10%? Is it miles? Days? Miles per week? Per Year? Per trip? I don't have a policy with them so I can't look at it. It may spell out in the policy how they calculate that. But if it was me and I was going outside the area I would want to know how it is calculated.
Remember, you are covered for what is writen in your policy. Not what an agent, or anybody you talk to at the company, tells you. Unless it is in writing, stating that it is a change to your policy, then consider it worthless. -
Keep believing all that
First off i get called in once maybe every 3 months because they can't read my DOT numbers they are 2" and legal but hard to see
never never never have i ever been told anything like that before
And by the way Progressive is not just in your state my buddy is down here running pipe from laurel montana he works down here most of the winter than goes home for the summer he has progressive not sure how he does it i know for a fact he has been DOT inspected 3 times around houston in the last few weeks so DOT has to know he is more than 500 miles -
I called everyone i could think of progressive was $1,200 less than anyone else streamline truck insurance came in 2nd but also has no towing insurance
Great West had everything i was looking far but is $1,850 more a year and i would have to put down $2,480 to start it ware now i do not have to put down a big deposit my payments are the same all 12 months
OOIDA is a Risk Retention Group thats why most companies and brockers dont take it
Out of all the insurance companies i talk to they all said the same thing most insurance policies have a radius they want to know were you drive 80% of the time Great West even said they had 1,000 mile radius but as long as 80% of my driving was inside of that i would be fine thats how it was put to me
