Its 50%+ at 90 days! Industry-wide annual turnover is over 100%.
Indeed. I am currently grounded medically from driving and working in the office for my carrier, and I am only 45 and in decent shape. Random eye issue popped up, and suddenly I woke up blind in one eye in March. Maybe, someday, I'll be able to pass the physical again, but until then, I am desk-bound.

Well that didn't really turn out like I expected. Yeah, I know...been a while since I've touched this thread (my, where does the time go :). Tried a different field for a few years, but wasn't really enthused by it and the family situation has changed, so it's time to consider trucking again. I've got my DOT physical card per Oakland Raiders suggestion, got the CLP with tankers, airbrakes, and passengers endorsements, and knocked out ELDT online per a few other posters' suggestions. Given the current state of the industry for newbies, I figure that company paid training at a company school will give me the best chance of getting employment once I've obtained the CDL. I've applied to Witte and Western Dairy Transport per some of Chinatown's older recommendations. CFI Refrigerated seems to want you to show up with a CDL. Are there any other companies that run their own school that I should be looking at here in the Midwest? Any other paid training beyond that geographical area that is likely to be a really good starting place and worth applying to? Thanks!

Yeah, because they all think they’re DI’s and regular humans as recruits. The reality is they’re a bunch of arrogant d*****bags.

That right there is how I want to retire. I actually would like to have a semi retired. Where I could spend about six months of the year in a place like that and the other six months out on the road on a truck saving my money. The challenging part is finding a company that will work with you in that regard. They all want to trap you in living out on the road 30 days at a time with a couple of days off. Those pictures won’t work in a scenario like that. Lol . I know drivers that do it, though, they go live in Southeast Asia somewhere on a beach in pure luxury six months out of the year and then they come back and jump on a truck and they company they work for keeps taking them back over and over again. If you’re a good driver, I don’t see why they wouldn’t, but most of them won’t.
