We've all heard the Lewis Black monologue about 2 Starbucks across the corner from each other.
Wanna try for 3 ???
My son is currently in the "Land Of Starbucks" and leftist attending college aka Washington. And he was telling me last night there are actually 3 Starbucks at one intersection down the street from his campus. -

I tip based on service. I don't buy the x% thing either. I've had expensive meals that required very little effort in the way of service from the waitress. I've had very inexpensive meals where much more effort was required on the servers part. Guess who gets the bigger tip. Why tip a person more when you have an expensive steak where they just punch the order in and bring out a plate vs. a cheap all you can eat salad and spaghetti meal where they keep coming back and topping up the bread and pasta, grate fresh parm for you etc. Just because the bill is higher doesn't mean they do more.
Tipping at Subway, couldn't see it. -
A high end hair dresser pays a "shampoo tech" out of pocket for services rendered. The shampoo tech works on a per client/procedure basis. A simple wash and rinse nets them $5. Generally when a client tips their stylist, the stylist will share the wealth with the tech...but not always.
Your tip....may be the only one a person gets for the day. If so, they've earned maybe $20 for a shift.
Sucks if you're a parent with 4 kids that lost your real job, and are doing everything you can to put food on the table...instead of going on welfare.
just something to think about. -
