Some big box store like Home Depot. Cheaper though on internet. Www.cabletieguys.com. They also sell heat shrink tape

I like to carry couple chains without hooks on one end for those loads with small holes to chain through. The other end, I hook to the chain binder.

But then how many chains does a guy need to carry besides how many straps?

I've always just pulled the cotter pin out of the clevis and taken the hook off to feed the chain through those holes then put the hook back on when I was done, since I only come across those holes 3-5 times a year. At last count I had 5 12', 2 6', and 10 18' 3/8 chains, and I've still come up 1 chain short on a load of transformers with the hooks close to 8' off the deck. Ended up strapping the last one, and broke the hooks on 2 straps losing 4 blankets over 1200 miles in the process. That's the only time I've ever had that problem, so I haven't sunk too much thought into getting around that issue beyond keeping my eyes peeled for some more chain on the cheap.

I cut a slot in the end of a broom stick for putting corners on high loads, I pipe clamp a tarp strap hook on the other end to help getting tarp straps hooked.

Flightline, tsavory and MJ1657 Thank this.

it wouldn't really matter if it is legal, use it, but don't count that as securement. it would still choke it.
