I have a Freightliner Century. I put the hard hat and vest in the overhead bin and the small cubby right over the driver has a net front so I hang my safety and sunglasses there. Always at hand and not rubbing on anything.

What I did was take a regular paint roller. Tear off the plastic end cap and the little metal bars that hold the roller sleeve on. This will leave you with just the handle and the 5/16" rod. Use a piece of 3/4" PVC pipe and two end caps. Cut the pipe so that with the end caps on it will be about 3/8" shorter than the rod. Drill 5/16" holes in both end caps so you can slip this on over the rod. Now put a 5/16" push nut on the end of the rod to hold the PVC on. It's less than an inch thick so it will go between almost any layer. I use the extendable handle to screw this onto. The other end of the handle had a plastic handle with an eye in the end to hang it up with. I cut the end of this so it is an open slot. I use this to put the one foot plastic V boards on high loads and to push my ropes with eye splices through a cable reel so I can pull chains through. I carry a handful of these ropes so I can set up four reels at a time and snatch all of my chains in just minutes.

I too use a heat gun and roller. No glue. It welds the patch on. Just takes practice for how hot your gun gets and how close you need to get it.
