If you carry dunnage it can be used to hold the tarps down if needed!

From rail, around pipe, to opposite rail. Some people call a strap that wraps around the pipe, but does not connect to the trailer a choke. Its a way to immobilize several peices into 1 unit.

No worries, ask for pics in the flatbed pics thread and people will post examples. Or shoot a pic of what your hauling and you can get ideas on how to isolate or secure just about anything. :)

Yah know, in the last few days I've seen "choke straps" on pipe loads that baffle me. I put choke straps in quotations for a reason. They run a 4" strap over the load and then under the trailer. The strap crosses sharp edges on the support beams of the trailer.

I don't get it. If you are going to do a choke strap to pull the pipes together as a unit, why waste leverage under the trailer and put edge stress on the straps?

I do a lot of pipe loads, and have never done a choke strap. Sometimes I might do a belly wrap on the first and/or top layer, ALWAYS put down straps on the first layer at the front and back dunnage, but choke straps are something I've never done.

I think that "under the trailer" move may be a tactic particular to the Chi-town white Volvo gang.... ;)

Yeah, some truck stop larry told em it would stop the trailer from rocking back and forth when they corner to hard, ya know, the torque pulls the trailer the opposite way of the turn.... but you gotta have passenger side winches...

Mr. Griz, Lepton1 and Mudguppy Thank this.
