Edit to add: i have been known to swing through a truck wash and pay a bit extra to get them sprayed off if grimy. But only on product that a little water won't hurt, such as pallets of shingles. Dont try this with stainless or painted coils under them.
Thanks for the picture! I took the headache rack off for this exact reason. I'd rather have them in the box on the trailer. Seems to be easier and more efficient.
I built metal devider boxes in the front and back well of my trailer to store my chains and binders. It helped a bunch.
Its gotten damp but not saturated. The water rolls off it. Remember my tarps are over it so the only water it should see is if I've got a pinhole in a tarp. As for cost, a 12x15 foot sheet wss only 25 bucks.
Do you remember where you got the felt? I pay 75 bucks for a 12x15 at tri city canvas. Their felt is #### tough. It does seem to shed water well. It may be treated with something because the water beads right up.
It's the exact same thing tri city has. Same manufacturer. I can't believe they jack the price up that much. Wow. Anyway i got it from my carriers company store. They used to sell to anyone tho. However if that has changed i could pick some up and meet ya out on the road if you run this region of the country. Hell i guess i could ship it to you, be a lot cheaper than tri citys crazy mark up.
Anyone built a headache rack out of side boxes? Was thinking of trying this because I wish not to block my rear door. Love to see some pictures if anyone has tried this.
I have seen pics (which I can't find)of a driver who did that. I think he was one of Joe Donovan's buddies on the Landstar mega-flat fleet on the east coast. he took two 24X24X60 boxes and stood them up on end on either side of his frame and filled in between with two stacked boxes with a "tray opening"door on the bottom and swing doors above. I think he also had a tarp tray on top. his chains hang inside the tall boxes so that he does not climb to get his chains.
