Do you have a regulation to back that up? Also with a little bit of effort you can get the folded strap all the way through the winch.

Pretty sure the possibility of the strap slipping is also higher. I tell you what// , next time you run a weigh house, stop and have a DOT look at ur short strap job and see if its legal.

That’s a lot of words to say “No”. I’ve never had a strap come out of a winch, short straped or not.

It's real simple guys. If short strapping is illegal as you claim then surely one if you is smart enough to find and quote the regulation.

That’s where you use a short strap instead of a long one. :D

Instead of running the end of the strap through the winch and folding the excess, you just fold the strap where it meets the winch and slide in a little bit of it instead of the entire strap. It’s a bad explanation but I think you’ll get an idea of it

If if you work a little bit harder you can get the folded strap all the way through to winch. I do both but some guys says both ways are illegal, with nothing to back them up but 3rd hand accounts from a guy they worked with for a few days.
