Mileage, really? Don't they have computers at WS? Seriously, I haven't had to record miles since the late 90s. I understand they give you the freedom to route as you see fit and pay accordingly, which I greatly appreciate, but as long as they have the route info and begin/end mileage on the trip envelope why on earth would they need anything else? Also, dont they have Qualcomms in these trucks? They have the tools, why not use them?

Am I missing something? Seems archaic to me.

Obviously Watkins isn't alone but I still don't understand why they wouldn't just punch the routes in to the computer and have it all in front of them. Maybe Watkins office staff isn't as large as I expect?

Anyway, no biggie, just struck me as odd with today's technology. With paper logs every stop is recorded anyway so it's just state lines to remember while driving, and yes I do remember missing a few in the past.

They give you routing but you're not mandated to follow it...I'm sure it generally falls within the margin of error...Maybe because we use paper logs they want it????...Or maybe they had 100,000 trip envelopes pre-printed and they have a space for it! :biggrin_2559:

I'd asked several times at different shops to remove the rev limiter/governor and they never went for that.:biggrin_25523:

They did however, turn off the 5-minute idle shutoff, which was nice. (If anybody out there is still putting up with that nonsense.)

The only way they know how many actual miles to charge to the trip is by what the driver puts as the beginning and ending odometer on the trip envelope. Those are the two important numbers. It's old school but easy.
