One of the videos in class showed a driver place a flashlight facing outward in the pitch black dock where he wanted the edge of his trailer to be when he backed in.
Tips for 90 degree backing?

I'm following you for the most part, 1st hard right perpendicular with trailor, 2nd hard left until horizontal to what? do you mean cab straight with trailor or cab horizontal to my original set up position? because if you mean cab straight with trailer then back up... how will I be ending up close to a 90 again?

Jack and chase the trailer. Try not to get crazy angles between the tractor and the trailer. Its hard to envision as a newbie, but it feels good turning the wheel all the way right, then all the way left. Makes you feel like a driver. But small wheel movements is best.

I pull up to get my angle before I start backing up,but there's cars parked in no parking zones so I can't get the optimum position. From the loading dock to the curb in a straight line is about 51 ft,subtract a 48 ft trailer.........It's impossible but when I'm backed in,it cuts off the exit from a parking lot,and then people want to get out.i can see nice shiny bracelets in my future !! AAAHHHHHH

I too have used this method"
Not sure if it helps getting the trailer where you want it!
But it sure makes you feel better!Mr Ed Thanks this. -

Phew!!..i thought i was the only one that screamed that..found myself doing that often on a 90 blindside
Mr Ed Thanks this. -
Don't care if I have to pull forward a time or two. As long as I get the trailer where I need it without damaging anything.

Thanks guys.... I'm convinced I'm gonna get it at least once... in one try tomorrow... because I want to get confidence built and I want to dominate that bit#h. .....I'll keep you posted.
