Tips for new drivers (things not to do)

......and remember if you end up tires to the sky and trailer on the ground you did something wrong...always remember shiny side up..

 

The seat belt is there for a reason. BUT what drivers who don't wear the thing don't realize is if that truck leaves the road you want to STEER it, NOT be holding on trying to stay in the seat! Use the belt to hold your ares down and you can use the steering wheel for what it's made for, to steer not hold on to for dear life! If it irritates you get used to it!
Soon you'll be reaching for it as soon as you hit the seat! It's really not uncomfortable. You just THINK it is!
A hint: Most of the trucks now have an adjuster mounted on the "B" pillar for better comfort.

That seat belt saved MY arse in Dec 08 and I'm glad it was on as I was able to control the freaking truck riding and bouncing down the guard rail! That's another story!

This is just my own personal taste, but I wouldn't get in the habit of carrying a "piss bottle" in the truck. I've never been in such a hurry and it's never been sooooooo cold outside that I couldn't find a place to relieve myself ... wether it's "cooling a tire down" beside the road or at a truck stop.

We had a driver a long time ago, who was on medical leave for back surgery. While he was out of work, the boss man had a new driver use his truck. This new driver liked to keep a piss bottle in the truck with him. Well, to make a long story short ... the new driver got fired for embezzelment when the boss man heard that he sold a tire from the spare tire rack at a truck stop in Elkton, Maryland. When he left the company he forgot to remove his open piss bottle from the cab. Two months later ... the driver who was out for back surgery, came back to work and I don't have to tell you what the cab smelled like. He never did get that smell out ... that's a long lasting stench!

Although you are correct on that first statement but are you implying that myself and many, many others that run their road lights at night are dangerous?? Hmmmm.... I have to think about that one for a while..

Hey, Im always open to advice.....but whining to me about how road lights bother you is not advice. Its simply the fact that there is something you dislike and you expect me and everyone else to change just to satisfy yourself. Thing is, too many people worry way too much about what the other person is doing. If somethins botherin you, ignore it....look the other way for cryin out load.

Why do you keep acting like I dont want to accept advice from vetran/experienced drivers?? Im always open to "REAL" advice... This constant bickering about road lights is not advice.

You miss the point, if your road lamps are adjusted properly the guy coming at you won't mention them. I don't know why people think it's a good idea to have a semi-blinded driver coming at them. Most guys if even if you offer to show them how to adjust them will tell you something like I'm not the mechanic, (The joke is they always say) I'm a driver. Well no your not, because a driver (or at least a good driver) tries to make the highway a safer place for all. I hope you live (without killing someone else either) long enough to learn how ridiculousness you sound arguing you have the right to blind other drivers.

As Larry Says " You can't fix stupid". The good part by running them all the time when you need them they will probably be burnt out.

My lights are aimed all the way down as far as they will go. Maybe you are referring to someone else who has had them improperly adjusted...

Once again if the lights are adjusted properly, how are they blinding you?

I am not blinding other drivers.....period; well, if I am, then you need to either have your eyes checked or get some special glasses or something.

If you are blinded by properly aimed driving lights that are no brighter than the low-beam headlights, then you dont deserve to be on the road at night. YOU are in fact the danger since your eyes cant handle it. I mean come on!!! Most of you have admitted to having light-sensitive eyes and have to wear sunglasses at night because of it and really have a difficult time driving at night..... Do you really think you should be on the road? For that matter, someone who may be deathly affraid of icy roads probably shouldnt be on the road till it clears up, dont ya think?

As Ive mentioned many, many times before, I see the same lights as you do and I hardly notice them. Ive even seen cars with headlights only that are way brighter than all four lights on most bigrigs.... They dont bother me....why you ask, well maybe because my eyes arent sensitive to bright light. If yours are bothered, then honestly, you dont need to be on the road at night unless you can find a way to fix it.

As a matter of fact, I can tell when one of them is out and I promptly replace it. Oh, and Ive only had one burn out......

 

You'll know if they get into my eye's I like showing my appreciation with my Q Beam right before we pass. If I can't see they don't need to either. I also use it to say thanks to those who use high beams at night to flash you back.
