I will agree with him too, when you have several thousand trucks with drivers that don't drive in bad conditions except for the time or two they get caught in a storm every year, and that many trucks on the road at one time. If I am running down south, I didn't run short and on long loads was generally a day ahead of schedule, so if they put the chain law up, unless I am at the front of the pack, I use the chain on the dash instead.

Driving in snow is a lot different than driving in Ice. Also it’s much colder up there, a hot (relative term) tire tends to stick much like putting your tongue on a flag pole. The most dangerous temp in snow/ice is right around 28 degrees F. At least that is my untrained opinion.

Bc no it’s not. You stay fairly mild the mountains to the East kinda keep the warmer ocean air over you, much the same as it keep the smog over LA

I would say 30 degrees, but you are correct, and believe it or not, we deal with those temps too, it does not magically go from 60 to 20 over night here either. We do however have a long period of cold weather after the ground temps get cold enough that we get fairly good traction on, IF we have tires for it, even at the coldest temps we see, all it takes id for one truck to slide his brake to slick a spot up, so the next one that hits it loses traction and the slick just keeps growing. 9 out of 10 times it is caused by someone trying to go down too slow, believe it or not.
The longest two times I have ever sit anywhere was once in rexas just north of Austin, it was raining and froze right now, I sat there 3 days watching all sorts of vehicles wreck coming off the off ramp, just way too much traffic for the conditions.
The other was in NC, 32 inches of snow shut down everything for 5 days, too many people, state did not have any way to deal with it, and most did not have a clue how to deal with it. lol
