Lets say we have two trucks Both have same engines Same HP Same torque Same trans Same gear ratio but one truck has 11r22.5 tires and other has 11r24.5 tires will the truck with 11r22.5 tires pull better on hills If not what is the reason guys have 11r24.5 vs 11r22.5

Ground clearance. 22.5 tires are too small out in the bush.

    Oxbow and Hammer166 Thank this.

The shorter tires have a lower effective gear ratio, so they will pull better with everything else the same.

I had 11R24.5 pulling 140,000 lbs. switched to 11R22.5 looking for better fuel economy trying to run in what I thought was my engines sweet spot.
Did find it pulled better, but fuel economy went down. So I switched back 18 months later when I wore out the drive tires.

Yes, ground clearance is one of the reasons for oil patch and I went off roads into farmers fields.

    Oxbow and Hammer166 Thank this.

    Isn’t the 24.5 16 ply rated for a little more weight than a 22.5 16 ply……

plus less revolutions per mile …….

    Oxbow Thanks this.

11r 24.5s are a few pounds more then 1122.5s but 12r22.5s can carry more then 11r24.5

    Oxbow Thanks this.

Price and availability is also a factor. 24.5” rubber is not nearly as common. If that’s what size it has factory I’d consider switching between lo pro and talls depending on what the goal is, but replacing 10 wheels and tires at the same time would be an outrageous bill and probably not worth it.

Switching over to 22.5's right now the cost is about the same with new rims, as it was for the last full set of 24.5's they are getting more expensive because there is less companies making them

    Oxbow Thanks this.
