I just bought a single axle cabover to replace my f350 to pull my 53' wedge. I deliver trailers regionally here in the north east so occasionally drive in the snow but usually just stay home if it's bad. Usual trailer weight is about 15k.

This is my first big truck so I'm a little green when it comes to tires on it.

Should I go with an open shoulder for more traction or is closed shoulder better since they should last longer? How about suggestions on brands or tread design.

I've had great luck with Firestones on my little truck, but how do they hold up on the bigger ones?

I can get sailun 798 locally for about $250 per tire. Yeah pretty cheap but I don't think that tread design is what would work well for my application.

I'd like to stay under $400 per tire.

And my steer tires are like new so I'm only looking for drives at this time.

    Thanks in advance!

    Dominick253 Thanks this.

I drove single axle Power only for many years. Didn't matter what tread pattern I had, or brand. Snow would make the truck a little loose on drive, I was always empty return trip.
I always got a closed shoulder. Not sure if it made a difference and usually had recaps.,
Never had problems with caps until I tried to use them on my stepdeck. Not an economical choice.
    Good luck

For snow or mud in service trucks, which is single axle, always had best luck with open shoulder, a regional type tire with more city driving. If your doing mostly highway and not alot of town a closed shoulder is fine and gets better wear and mileage.
Sailin is would say the 753 if more city and 768 if more highway

1991 Freightliner FLA 300 big cam cummins, Eaton 9 speed with 3.91 rears. Around 500k on it and it runs really well from what I can tell. I have the maintenance records since 200k miles. Was used as a back up truck and yard jockey most of its life so it's had it pretty easy. The tires would all pass inspection but they're all mismatched and I'd rather start with a matched set at least.

I'm working on making her a little prettier but I'm excited to get her on the road.
