Tire wear question, shoulder wear on steer tires.

    I would personally make sure I had good brand steer tires. Sounds like the alignment is pretty good to me. Does sound like an under inflation issue possibly, but not at 120 psi. I would personally try Bridgestone or Michelin steer tires.

    I run Haulstar 295/80r/22.5

    I know these are Chinese, but I run Haulstar on all of my drives and trailers, never had a blow out, I have tried Michelin, toyo and Bridgestone and pretty much everything else. At double the price, I got no more mileage out of them and simply where not worth it.

    Yeah, they were done not long ago. They where bad but got them fixed up. Haven't seen any difference since they were done

    More power to you, I would never ever be caught with a Chinese tire for a STEER. FYI, quality isn’t there anymore, and a Chinese tire would be where it would start first.

    What did you tyres look like at 100k? Was it low on tread or were they changed due to a bad wear pattern?

    Too be honest, I don't think I have ever seen a steer tire that got to low even tread lol, when you look at the steers at the tire shop they are all scalloped or inside/outside worn etc etc lol

    I have never had a single issue with Haulstar, I have run probably over 2 million miles with them on my steers (multiple trucks) and never had a single concern with them.

    I actually did a test with Michelin's v Toyo v Haulstar. Toyo got less mileage than Haulstar, Michelin got 1.2 miles to Haulstar 1 mile, but cost 2.8 X the cost.

    I know this thread will now turn into "don't run Chinese on the steer, and change to Michelin's and your problems will go away" but anyways.

    I currently run my Haulstars for as long as I can on the steers and then swap them to my trailers. When I put them on my trailer as duals they wear great! Will get another 150k miles out of them easily.

    It's a no brainer for cost

    It’s all good. I run local, I’m running Firestone 16 ply for steers. I just replaced all my drives, my tire guy found me 8 take off’s(barely used) from a truck with a blown motor, paid $1600. Yes, they’re off brands, casings less than a year old.

    I am in Australia, there is zero retreading industry here, wouldn't even know where to get a retread done. Everybody runs Chinese. And I mean everyone. Each of the tyre shops have there own Chinese brand affiliates and just get them in by the container load. Casings don't get reused.

    My tyre shops has
    Michelin steer - $999
    Bridgestone - $860
    Michelin steer - $710
    Goodyear - $630
    Haulstar - $300

    To make a Michelin $999 tire more cost effective than my Haulstars brand I would have to get a million KMs out of it as a steer/trailer combo. Ain't going to happen.
