As a slow truck driver, there is a lot less stress being passed than needing to pass. When I get too stressed I slow down & I magically have following distance & no need to pass a barely slower truck in front of me. The 5mph slowdown only adds 15 minutes to my 160 mile drive. It removes a ton of stress.

The meeting with the Titan recruiter went well. My wife and I spent an informative hour and a half talking about everything that Titan has to offer a driver looking for refresher training and a driving career. The meeting concluded with a truck tour of a fresh 2017 Freightliner. I learned very little earth shattering info; Refresher training lasts 8-weeks; driver trainee is paid .18 cents per mile while s training; training is not team driving (a positive nark for Titan). Starting pay is .33 cents per mile.
Titan has plenty of benefits, and bonuses including driver referral program etc. The recruiter was straight with us as far as we knew, a plus that he did not come as as a new or used car salesman. My wife and I had four plus pages of questions, and we got them all answered in the hour and a half... but I am not completely convinced that this is my starting point to get back into trucking. The first 8-weeks at .18 cents per mile would be quite a painful start to a career. Provided you get the miles, it averages out between $400 and $500 a week starting out.
I have two other companies I will meet with during the Martin Luther King holiday, Danny Herman, and Knight. I know, I know, why even consider a mega(?) Well, probably because they are not perceived as the lowest of the "bottom feeders." I was supposed to meet with Danny Herman after the Titan visit, but had to reschedule...Nextup Thanks this. -
So another update to add; during my visit to Titan, I asked the recruiter to pass my phone# to one of their drivers. He did just that, and this evening I talked for a long while with a Titan driver, a veteran of 8+ years. The driver is also a trainer with Titan, with 12 to 13 trainees in his resume. Our talk has gone a long way to turn the tides, or I should say, to change my mind about Titan. We talked numbers and miles, lief styles and freight. I have asked the driver to call me again, so we can talk training; specifically what I can expect from, and what he would expect of me. One of the things I failed to mention in my last post, was that the recruiter told me that Titan has acquired another trucking company in Tuscon, AZ. This could possibly open a lane for solo drivers to get a better taste of the west... Definitely excited about that.

Yes, Titan bought out a co. called Renolds Logistics. Looks like an all Volvo fleet. Mostly white but a few light grey thrown in. Terminal is on the S. side of town wedged between a residential area and I10. Danny Herman has a terminal in Nogales AZ just 60 miles south down I19. Lots of produce coming out of Nogales going in every direction.
DRAGON64 Thanks this. -
Guilty as charged, by the time I noticed the error, the statute of limitations on the edit button had passed... So when I was at the Cornersville, TN terminal, I did see some of the silver Volvos on the yard. They had the big super single tires on the drives. I was told that titan hopes to have all of them traded out by the start of Summer...

When they bought us out at Reynolds they gave us a 1 cent raise to .29 cents a mile. I liked Titan Transfer they maintained the equipment we had disk brakes on the tractors. It was the only company that I had ever worked for where I wanted to wash the truck and make it look nice.
