You will have that quite a bit. When you get into your truck tomorrow send in a macro for securement I can't remember the number but you will see it listed. It will ask you what term and what you request as well as your eta. If you don't send it in ahead of time they can have a hissy fit about it. The fellow at Des Moines is great be sure to tell him " Semper Fi" when you leave.
TMC experience thus far.......

It's been my experience a lot of our driver think only of themselves and will not take the time to keep trailers in DOT condition, as well as leaving you bad securement or tarps.
Dominick253 and Toona67 Thank this. -
About the tarps--or for that matter, any kind of load and/or load securement swaps: the instant you know you have to do one of those, GET AS MUCH INFO FROM AND/OR ABOUT THE OTHER DRIVER AS POSSIBLE. If nothing else, at least get the truck # and if you can, name. Inspect EVERYTHING, and if even one thing is amiss/out of place/broken/damaged/not up to spec, REPORT IT IMMEDIATELY. This absolves you, the gaining driver, of responsibility for damaged equipment--and in the case of load swaps (also called "re-powers"), fault for damaged freight due to improper securement of whatever driver you got it from.
The other thing is this: any damage will be, if need be, charged back to the other driver, not you.
Some drivers know this. Just know that if you have damaged equipment and have to swap it with another driver, he could possibly do the same thing to you if it's not reported.
All this stuff helps you cover your own hide out there.Dominick253 and Highway Sailor Thank this. -
Yeah, Todd and I had a pretty good talk about some of the things I have been seeing and experiencing out here. I will definitely not take it for granted that others are as conscientious as I am going forward. It is beyond me how people can pass the buck on some of the things I have seen.
Highway Sailor Thanks this. -
Picked up a trailer from home depot thursday, side box damaged door not attached to side box, gash in one tire, all but 2 marker lights on passenger side not working. Sent message to safety.
Dominick253 Thanks this. -
I report everything on my truck and trailer as soon as it is noted. The issue is, of course, that it takes road repair and safety forever to get back to you.
I just lost all the marker lights on the right side of the trailer I have and after 90 minutes of Qualcomm messaging and checking every connection myself, they are sending someone out. This will mean that I will not make the next load that I was supposed to pick up to run up north with and will be sleeping here in Danville, VA empty tonight.Dominick253 Thanks this. -
Toona67 Thanks this.

I think I will be making my decision fairly soon.............

I'm at a flying j right now Toona, shut down for the night. What's going through your mind?

Ah, just been adding up the pluses and minuses of the job. As I have said previously, this is my first OTR job, although I have had a CDL A for many years. Seems I talk to a lot of drivers that have no problem getting home on Friday evening and heading out Sunday. I get the feeling my fleet manager would like me to head out on Sunday a bit more but as I do not generally get home until Saturday......(some time in the day) I do not usually.
Much like today, I was in NJ slept at the shipper was unloaded by 8:30am and he puts me on a load 300 miles north into MA loading out of TX Pipe in NJ. So now, as what seems the usual, I am 600 miles from home with NYC between me and there. No possible way that I will be home before Saturday morning. Mind you, I understand that this happens and it is not always anyone's fault in particular, but when I have been able to get home 1 Friday out of 8 it is a bit irritating. The home time promise was one of the things I came here for. I do not mind to run a couple weeks here and there but do not need to financially. If I am going to be out until Saturday anyhow there are a lot of other companies that I can work a lot less hard and make comparable money.
This should not be construed as a whining episode, I knew the challenges coming into the job and mentioned that I was just trying it out to see if it was for me or not. At the moment, I am getting a lot more minuses then pluses.
Thanks for asking, I appreciate the thought.Dominick253 Thanks this.
