TOONA67 two things.... First off I went to do my pretrip this morning @0300 to get home and found my rear trailer lights not working. While I was repairing them I thought about you this week. Second...I thought about tanker in the past but in doing my due diligence I found the tend to take longer to load/unload and you are not home for two weeks or more. Third and please remember this: The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence, due to all the BS. I read that from another post some where. Also all companies are the same. I have read from past TMC drivers that start threads here ready to start the world on fire, next thing you know they are at their third carrier making the same statements. Be safe my brother and keep the faith.

I have only had two jobs in the last 18 years before coming to TMC. I do not take moving on so quickly lightly but I do appreciate the thoughts on the matter.
I do not mind being out for two weeks at a time if I am making more money for doing it and not being penalized for things out of my control. The company was referred to me by a friend of mine who has known the family for many years and I would be 1 of 5 drivers for the dairy....(yes, literally a milk run lol). Two of the current drivers I have to call later today have both been with the company for 5 years + and from what my buddy says, they are very happy with the treatment and the pay.
Again, I am still just at the "due diligence" stage as you mention but I am also not ruling it out as a possibility.
On the TMC front, I have had my FM contact Clynt in the boat division to see what my chances of that are. My wife and I both want to move back home to MI and they have been looking for a driver for boats in MI for some time now. From the discussions I have had with a few of the guys as well as Jeff in training, it sounds like I might find that division a bit more to my liking. I like the company overall and the mindset and policies they have. If I can find a way to wrap my head around making part of it work with my life overall and what I see as right and wrong, I will have little problem with staying on with the company.
Thanks for your input Highway, we need to get together for a beer some time. You are only a couple hours away, we could meet in Grove City or something and have a beer at Primantis. lol

Right you are on that. For the most part I enjoyed my time at TMC, couldn't have asked for a better place to start my career. I lasted there almost four years, and if not for the local gig I have now I'd still be there. I still lend out a helping hand whenever I see one out where I'm at (that part never never left my system).

As for the Charleston WV drop...I'm almost willing to bet dollars your next pickup will be at one of the two Weyerhaeusers up I-79 from you...the one in Heaters is about 3 or 4 miles off exit 67; the other one is off exit 99 and about another 10 or 12 miles east off I think US-50, in Buckhannon. The only other place I can think of, and I don't know why they'd send you there to pick up, would be the Novelis plant up in Fairmont, off exit 136 (going north), or exit 137 if you want to go the easier way.

Beer sounds good. And hauling milk sounds OK if the money is in it for you. Now I can tell you this....I was in the boat division last year and it was OK for me until September when it started to slow down. I was sitting in mo every two weeks for 3 days waiting for a load. You can make OK money but I made more in line haul. You will be out for at least two weeks. Went by my house to sit in mo, that sucked. Also you lose tarp fees and that can add about 2000.00 to your revenue. I liked it there, nothing like line haul and I was in Canada alot. I think you need a year of safe driving, but I know they are looking for drivers. As for pay you start at 40cpm upto 45cpm.

I know it sucks from a company that is hailed for its clean equipment and dependable home time.... To not really make it home as advertised.

But beyond that.. Is not safe to depend on solid $1k weekly payroll deposits ??

Or grossing 13-14... Whatever it takes to cover taxes and benefits... So that you have the 1k to work with each week?

I'm currently up against my 14 hour clock five days a week... There is always the glimmer of hope for that 1k mark.... But is missed most weeks.

That really sucks doing the math.

    5x14 divided by paycheck.

I would not mind coming up short on my weekends home.
If I am netting over 1k... And especially if I am up against the 11 clock more often than the 14!!

In their defense, and as Highway mentioned, it is a bad time of year for cargo in many areas. Here in the NE we are somewhat isolated from the seasonal up and downs but I am running a looong way some weeks to get the revenue.
If not for back to back maintenance failures the last two weeks, I would have easily hit the $4k truck revenue mark plus tarp and bounce pay.
As I said earlier, it is not so much a pay issue for me as it is just not being sure this is the type of work I really see myself doing going forward. It is certainly not for everyone.

% pay, even during this slow period it has worked out better for me. A load here or there may be -$20 or so but overall it has been for the best.

As an FYI to all that have been following this thread.
I have put in my two week notice with my fleet manager. Overall the company has been true to their word on most of the important aspects, at least what is important to me. They took it well and are allowing me to work my two weeks. Mostly, I believe, because I have been very open with my fleet manager throughout the time I have been here. Communicating my likes and dislikes as well as stating my opinions in a professional manner.
The OTR flatbed thing is just not my cup of tea and rather than waste their time and mine, I felt it best to move on.
My next job, more than likely, is a small company based out of MI that I find very little on the forum about. If I do indeed start there, I will open a new thread for people who may be interested in the ins and outs of that company.
I have enjoyed the great commentary this thread has generated and hope that in some small way, I may have helped others in their decisions.
Be safe and have a great day all!!
