Ok, I'm not trying to scare you off. Size doesn't matter but, the reality is that steel tarps are 100 lbs and lumbers are 120 or so dry. Add some water and or ice and you can add 20 lbs to that. As far as jumping on the trailer, I'm only 5'9" 165 lbs and I can jump up no problem (at 48 yrs old!!). If you make it through orientation and get sent out with a trainer, he can explain all of this to you. Listen to the trainer and lean on him when you first start out in your own truck. Training and motivation will make you a happy driver. If you are joining TMC you will not be home every night. Expect to be out Sunday through Friday. If you thought anything different with TMC, you are wrong. You will not get a home every night job unless your in an area that allows it and even at that you have to pay your dues in linehaul first. Good luck
I would like to thank all the folks that have taken the time to answer questions about TMC. I had a Hernia surgery in Jun 12, got a full steam ahead from the Doc & have had not problems from it. I also plan to have a Dr's statement when I show up at TMC (if selected for hire down the road). Anyone think that will be an issue. I am also looking to start school in Jan or Feb at Central Tech in Oklahoma. Any inputs about this school..... THX
You might have a "Plan B". TMC is known for not hiring drivers with previous medical problems such as yours. They will bring you to Des Moines, then send you home after a couple of days.
Don't ever volunteer information regarding medical issues. TMC can only ask if you can do the job 'with or without reasonable accommodation'. Companies do not have access to your medical history unless you grant them access.
Last I checked, a hernia surgery would be considered a "recent surgery", and I do believe that is a question on the physical
Thanks for this information. My husband has been thinking about applying for TMC but needed more info about the pay. He is new to trucking. He has only been driving for a little over 4 months. He is still in a contract with Driver Solutions paying for his training. He is employed with Pam as a team driver and is only making about .17 cents per mile. After they remove his training fee he usually brings home about $300 a week (if he is lucky)
i have a friend who works for them as well & he says that after he paid in his training fee he made very good money with PAM.
He is only averaging about 2500 to 2800 miles as a team driver and he has been told by many drivers he has met that he should be atleast getting double that. He has brought home as low as $49, $129 etc.... this past week he brought home $247.28 and he is living off peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. We are just praying things get better or he will be forced to leave because the money isn't worth being gone three and four weeks and bringing home so little. I'm glad your friend is doing well with Pam. I'm not sure what is going on with his situation.
