cam you guys give examples of the decision making test. wondering what that is all about. my recruiter said that there is only basic math and basic English for testing. she said they want to make sure you can read and write.

I'm in school now. Just finished the classroom work today, and heading to the range on Monday. I can't wait. I've seen several recruiters come thru school, and the more I see the more I like TMC (% and Petes how can you go wrong? lol). I have a pre-hire with them and Maverick (like the pay but not sure about the home time and pushing an auto trans). This thread has been hugely helpful. Thanks to all who have posted.

I'm just curious, Carlnix30. Did you go to All State out of Lester? Your description of the CDL test sounds like what they do so I was just wondering.

This post concerns me. I am a 43 year old man and have run my own business for 5 years. I speak to others with respect and expect the same in return. There is too much "tough guy" nonsense in American culture. Look at some of the TV shows like American Hot Rod, American Chopper, the #### Logging show, etc.

I am also concerned with this TMC story. I am a big boy (42 yrs old) now and I try to be kind to other people, but all the crap I am ever going to take from another man I took in my 4 yrs in the marines. TMC looks good to me because of their reputation of having good securement training as well as their training after orientation. I start school next week so will be sending off apps soon.
So, the question is-Is this "boot camp mentality" rumor something dreamed up by disgruntled employees who could not hack it in an orderly atmosphere, or is there really a culture at TMC that includes drill instructor-like behavior from management? That is a big difference that I am talking about.
I don't need my old rank and name on my door and don't need a parade; I just want to do my job well and expect the same from my management. I am also not afraid to hitchhike back to OK from Des Moines in the middle of january. Am I in for a dissapointment?
    thanks!

Haven't heard anything in a while about TMC and I want to be first to say I did NOT work there. I believe there are a few threads about the company on this forum. Use the search function, read all of the posts and make up your own mind. Without first hand experience I can't really say one way or the other but I do trust my friend who did work there for quite some time and I simply relayed what he described. He also is ex-military and one heck of a hard worker. He didn't badmouth the company in any way, simply relayed to me what he experienced and witnessed. Note the person I was responding to in the above response had very similar things to say about TMC that my buddy claims. I know for a fact this thread was read by managers at TMC. Perhaps there is an employee or two there in management who have/had a tendency to go overboard at times with too much gusto but I wouldn't let that deter me. I would have a problem with anyone getting up in my face, yelling/screaming at me or belittling me in front of others ... even if I screwed up. If an employee screws up, you take him aside and in private you address the situation professionally. Before I started with my company I researched everything available on it and contacted drivers and ex-drivers and asked all kinds of questions. I learned to believe half of what I read and hear. There are always disgruntled employees out there but when a company gets a slew of disgruntled drivers, I don't think they're all "disgruntled." Not saying that's how it is with TMC but if memory serves me correct there are enough threads and posts here about the company to really think about it. And then flip a coin. Good luck. Keep us posted.

I drove for TMC for 4 years and I can honestly say I was never screamed at by anyone in management while there. I had one incident where I was called into Todd Bunting's (head of safety) office to discuss what happened. It was handled firmly, but with respect.
I did post somewhere in this thread that you have to be assertive at times with your fleet manager and request a new one if you're not getting satisfaction. I know of a lot of guys who would complain about their FM, but do nothing about it. Sometimes personalities don't mesh and you need to stand up for yourself and request a new FM. You have the right to do it.

At the end of the day, you are treated with respect if you have earned it.
If you look at the first post in this thread, it documents my beginning experience as well as some time after that. I am an owner-operator now and still have nothing bad to say about TMC. I left them to do this because I consider myself a very independent person and I wanted more control of my own destiny.
I still use my training from TMC everyday and I am grateful for the excellent training I got from them.

Thanks guys. That is the kind of input I and others look for. I believe that where there is smoke there is fire, but I can only try to control my own fire, so to speak. I think if I head into the whole school/training thing with an open mind and ears then I can't go too far wrong.

There is a lot that factors into that, but on average I did between 110,000 to 130,000 I want to think. I did more when I was on Boats because that is primarily all long runs.
After your in the truck for awhile, be sure to ask about dedicated accounts in your area.
