I have a few pre-hires and am also still in driving school. Of the pre-hires I have, TMC seems to be at the top of my list. If I go I will be starting orientation just when you are finishing.............
Just to be on the safe side, I wouldn't believe everything a recruiter tells you. His/her job is to get you to orientation.
Well, if that were the case then I would not go to anyone's orientation. Gotta start somewhere. There seems to be less negative posts about TMC than most. Plus the hometime fits in with what I'm I'm looking for now. Short of being home every night, which usually won't be available to a new graduate, it will work for me. I am eliminating companies that absolutely indicate that you are going to be out for 2-3 weeks(or more) before you get home.(outside of what is required while I am training) I may be eliminating some excellent companies by doing this, but I'm willing to live with it.
I like the fact that in the late 80s when I applied to TMC, plus I knew one of their top drivers, they told me I didn't have enough experience. (I'd been driving 3 years hauling machinery for a John Deere Dealer.) Now they're hiring drivers out of schools.....
So you go from thread to thread posting the same stuff huh. Congrats at your really lame attempt to insult/degrade/poke fun - at new drivers. Just remember that even YOU had to get a start SOMEWHERE. PS If this wasn't a lame attempt to discredit new drivers, I don't apologize. Perception is everything and your posts perceive to be negative so whatever.
I have nothing against new drivers, and the best of luck to them, I hope it works out and they are successful. If a new driver has a question, I'd be happy to try and answer it for them. I'd rather see them make the right move, get the experience they need and become a GOOD driver, then be put in a bad company, hate the job and quit when they may have been a good driver. It's just that years ago, TMC was as tough to get onto as UPS, if you drove for TMC then, you were highly respected. Plus, you had to know someone to even get an application. Now they are hiring driver's out of schools. That's my point..........
So, drivers that don't possess your experience, but drive for TMC are no longer respected? Sounds like sour grapes to me.
No doubt. I've logged over 2200 miles this week so far. We're staying at a motel near the Indy terminal, getting the T/T serviced, and then we're headed to WI tomorrow morning. My trainer is a great guy and everything is going very well.
It's not that the driver's are not respected, it's just what TMC turned into from what it used to be. Don't get me wrong, it's still a good company. You can see those trucks coming down the road and KNOW who it is. No sour grapes for me, I went to work for Casey's General Stores, worked for them for 7 1/2 years, tougher to get on with than TMC, better for me in the long run, I was the youngest driver there for several years. At that time back in the early 90s in the midwest, TMC, UPS, Casey's, Supervalu and Walmart were the top companies to get on with for regional work, you were a top dog if you worked for one of those companies. Again, you guys going to work at TMC, good luck and I hope it works out, take care of the equipment, some of the nicest on the road, and do your job and you'll be fine.
