Good luck. Keep in mind that the whole orientation is like an interview to pay attention.

Usually you can pick any Monday to start orientation after you are approved by the hiring committee.

I believe that Delaware is in the line haul zone where you will be home 46 out of 52 weekends. A recruiter would have to verify this since they keep changing the hiring line.

There are no accidents, period. Chains left on a headache rack when you spill a load will get you fired. You can't tie down a load of moulding, that is Murphys Law not a rule. It will shift no matter if you have 48 straps on it.They will send you where the blizzard has ariived 2 hrs earlier, the hurricane is already coming ashore and there will be 2 " of freezing rain in the next 2 hrs. The prognosticater will say the wind will be 15-30, it will gust to 90 while you are tarping between 2 buildings. Crap rolls down hill, the boss is always right. Any questions? Crap rolls down hill the boss is always right. Crap rolls down hill....... Get the picture? You cannot go home, you cannnot go home, you cannot go home.

A typical week on Line Haul at TMC from Baltimore will find you loading nearly every friday morning at Tamko in Frederick MD and you will take that load home friday night. Late Sunday afternoon you will hit the road and park at or near your delivery location in lets say Pittsburgh PA. You will get unloaded there monday morning and load some steel on that delivers in Chicago on Tuesday. After you get unloaded in Chicago you will load probably some more shingles that will take you towards Cincinnatti for Wednesday. Unload that wednesday morning and you will pick up a load going to Knoxville TN for Thursday. Pick up in Knoxville delivering to Baltimore for Friday morning. The pain is that even though you are getting unloaded 20 miles from home at 8am Friday Morning you will need to then go to Frederick and get re-loaded with your monday delivery so you won't actually get home until after five pm.

I believe that Percentage pay is the only fair choice and have discussed it before in this section of the forum.

Rawlco, and all who replied, thanks for all the info. Another question is what's the advantage of having served in the Army? Does that help with getting hired? Will your pay increase? or do they just recongize that most are more disiciplined and can follow orders. Oh and as far as if im working line haul, how do you go about requesting to stay out longer? Do you just send a qualcomm message requesting additional runs? I also have a question about parking. I live not too far from a TA truck stop, will I be able to park my truck there? And what do I do about my personal vehicle?

Mostly it shows maturity and discipline to the hiring committee. It does not get you any more pay, sorry.

Just tell your Fleet Manager either by phone or qualcomm on Monday "I don't care about being home this weekend, so send me where the freight is good" and your FM will get the message. You may find that the good freight takes you home anyway, you never know.

Yes you can park the truck at a truckstop, but there are a couple of things to consider. I disliked both of the TA's in your area. Both of them are pay to park so I think it will cost you a few dollars to park there for the weekend. If you purchase 50 gallons of fuel you can park overnight for free, but a weekend is two overnights so I don't know how that works. We can buy fuel at the downtown Baltimore TA I know for sure, but I will have to check our list for the one on the south side in Jessup. You will have to check out the car parking situation for yourself. Both of those TA's have a restaurant that is open to anyone, so hop in your car and go check it out. Buy a meal and see what you are really getting into with this job. :biggrin_25525:

I think Jessup is in the fuel book, but there is NO ULSD at that stop. When I drove for TMC, and lived in Bel Air, I parked at the Lowes off 95. I think finding a place like that, go in and talk to the store mgr, and get their ok, is far preferable to parking at a truck stop.
