The job is what you make of it. I think it's a good company, but I only run local so don't know how things are for the line haul drivers. I don't have to deal with waiting for my next load or getting home.

My husband would tell you go for it. He has had some rough spots as with any company I suppose, and he is a new driver to the entire trucking thing. I can say I was getting pretty discouraged with TMC due to lack of home time but its getting better. Its not for everyone (flatbedding) but hes loving it (now that he has a new fleet manager that is). Rumor has it they push new hires to test them so just keep that in mind. Good luck

ok, I have had it! what do I do? my husband's fm comes off vacation and is right back at his crap! My husband has told him this is my birthday weekend and his fm now has hubby coming home tomorow only to leave sunday for an early monday delivery! no 34 restart. he wont let me email his fm a message on face book (probably good advice). we thought my hubby was getting a new fleet manager but is not the case. I want to call TMC and complain myself but again, hubby says no. I am so frustrated!!!!!

any advice would be greatly appreciated right now -
OTR you will miss a lot of everything. A few co's get you home for christmas and thanksgiving, but don't count on many more days than that. Flats can get home on weekends usually, but they are hit and miss. Sometimes it is just passing through. That is the nature of the beast.

that's trucking. These companies will not get you home when you want, will not send you where you want to go, will not pay you all the money you want. :smt079
The company has to move freight, and schedules to meet. You work for them. Drivers have to adapt to what the dispatcher needs, not the other way around.
Just know your husband loves you, and he tried to please you.
Sorry, but thats the way it works, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY !:smt039 -
About the only way he'll get home is if he's an O/O. Even then, he'll have to run his rear end off just to make the money to pay the bills AND upkeep on the truck. Like others have said, flatbedding is a lot better than running a van or reefer. A lot of those companies will have us out 14-21 days before they'll even think about trying to get us home for a few days of R&R. I'm not going to badmouth any company, but I've got some friends who run for USX, Crete, Superior Carriers, TransAm, and Sunbelt Transfer. I listed those because I know for a fact that they're getting home every 7-10 days, whether they want to or not. Every outfit runs things differently. Keep your chin up, girl. He's out there doing it for the both of you. Be good. Keep the faith. Things will get better. The first year's usually the hardest for any driver.
truckerswife71 Thanks this. -
I've gotten a pre-hire for TMC and am planning to schedule the orientation. Thank you for the info.

In my 2 and 1/2 years with McElroy Trucklines, Inc. I was only away from home "all weekend" ONCE, and that was my first weekend out after picking my tractor up from the Cuba, AL Main Terminal after I passed final orientation. Now granted, there were quite a few occasions that I got home late Friday night and had to leave early Sunday Morning, but still and all, Mr. McElroy did NOT want his trucks moving on a Saturday for his own personal religious reasons, so they "guaranteed" it by paying you $100 if you didn't make it home all day (24 Hours) Saturday.
Of course, now I am with Bluelinx, so I am home EVERY NIGHT and ALL WEEKEND
