TMC Percentage Pay?

Percentage pay is when the driver is paid a set percentage of whatever the the load pays to the company. If the load is a cash cow for the company, the driver makes good money. But if the load doesn't pay that well, the driver takes a hit in low revenue as well.

Mileage pay is when the driver is paid a flat rate based on the miles from point A to point B, usually zip code to zip code.

Can you give a average on pay for percentage and Milage. I am new to this and trying to see what's best. I want to stay on road and work as much as I can, I don't care how long I am gone, what's the average on pay for a rookie driver?

 

It's kind of hard to do an average cause a lot depends on how you run, how you run your hours, where you're running, and types of loads. If you suck at tarping and all that, you're going to struggle. If you're home weekly, you're going to struggle somewhat. Lots of factors. When I was line haul, percentage killed mileage. On specialized, percentage kills mileage. I guess it's more in what you prefer. I'm also not the best to Tell you, cause I'm biased towards percentage, but whenever I did the figures it was either a wash, or percentage killed it.

 

Do you think tmc a good company to start with as a rookie, as for getting the experience and drive time.

 

TMC is a great company to start off as a rookie, as long as you don't mind getting out of the truck and putting in some real work. Its not always bad but chaining, strapping and tarping in 100+ degrees isn't fun. You have to love flatbeddin' to survive. I started with them with only about 3 months experience and I love it. They have great training and like previously stated you can make great money even if your just starting out. As long as you have a strong work ethic and can get a routine down. It will be whatever you make of it. And yes percentage still beats the crap out of mileage in linehaul.

the load i have now (not a great load) pays 691.08. You should be able to make at least 27% so that's $186.59. It s a 3/4 day load of lightweight insulation, so thats not bad.

Bounce was 33 miles and loaded miles are 372. Under / mile pay you would get a max of .36/mile (if i remember right). that's $145.80

Which one do you want lol? Clearly % is better on 95% of the loads.

You will get experience and you will make a ton if your work hard. You will gain more technical driving experience then pulling nsince some of the places we go are tricky lol.

I wouldn't go that far. There's no shortage of companies out there thats are just plain out screwing people. When I was in school there way NO shortage of companies coming in hoping we weren't smart enough to use a calculator. However, we had two guys come from TMC and it looked like a good deal. If I had any plans of going OTR they would have been near top of the list.
