I put an app for TMC and I'm excited to join, I spoke to a recruiter and he has me set up for orientation in dec. but my only question is from i hear is TMC gets a group of people for orientation and only a few is selected for the job, is this in fact true? otherwise it seems like a waist of time to go to orientation and come with nothing.

I am also going to TMC my orientation date is set for dec 6th when is yours? As far as I'm aware they are really strict so you can only eliminate yourself. Alot of ppl get the axe for things that only they can controil don't worry just be ready to put in 150% if not more lol hopefully see you there.

well i haven't been given a date for my orientation but my recruiter told me to call him in first week of dec. and my class ends on dec. 10th. students in my class tells me TMC would take in 50 people for orientation and 20 would get the job. I don't think anyone should have to compete for a job.

Yep, just what FirNaTine said. Definitely a two weeks interview. My orientation was the same, w/only around ½ of class making it. Several were let go for (as far as I could tell) just acting foolish. A couple were even sent away during the last few days. If you smoke, do so in designated areas, & don't throw your butts down. Treat everyone respectfully, including hotel employees. Don't come back late from lunch/breaks. Stay off the grass. If you wear a hat, take it off in the classroom. Pay attention to the instructors & show a willingness to learn and you should have no problems.

There is no competition at orientation. What is expected is for you to follow the rules, be on time, and complete your work. It is a very busy 2 wks., and you must maintain a "c" average. You will take several tests during class room portion (1st 4 days) and about 3 of these tests or exercises are for you to complete on your own and you are given 3 days to get those done. One thing I have'nt seen mentioned here is your background check. They are doing this during orientation and if something is found that you did not disclose, you may get sent home. My class started with 29 and finished with 23. All that were sent home were for obvious reasons, but it does make the experience a little tense. The 1st day of load securement training you will have to demonstrate your ability to carry a lumber tarp and work on top of a load 13'6". We had 1 sent home due to being afraid of heights, but was given several chances to complete the task and said he thought they could just give him "short"
loads.
It seemed to me that most of orientation is designed to make you think about what you are doing. They are looking for drivers that are a good "fit" for TMC. The yard training is very helpful and I found all the yard guys and road trainers to be fairly laid back and helpful. The goal is not to see how many guys can be eliminated. We were officially hired on thursday of the 2nd wk. At that time we were given a speech about what to expect when going out with a trainer and were told to report back any issues. Follow this direction, as they will be straight up with you and react to any improper situations you may find yourself in.
All in all I have found TMC to have good integrity. They expect you to follow the rules, be on time, and take good care of the equipment. If you can do that, you will not have issues at orientation. -
The information given about TMC is very helpful. Thanks for not sugar coating the truth. "No one plans to fail they simply fail to plan". I'm going with TMC because they seem to be up front and require a sense of dedication and integrity. The style, make, model and color of the truck means nothing if the company is not going to invest in the operator pulling the freight. Hoping to start orientation in December, the post have let me know what to expect. It's a job so come with the mind state that I'm here to prove to myself that I'm worthy of achieving the GOALS I've set before myself.
