I dont see how gliders can be excluded. They only exist now as the emissions requirements are tied to the engine and not the actual truck but as you said the manufacturers will be using all aspects of the truck to achieve the future fuel efficiency mandates. I dont see how they could do this and be able to exlude the aerodynamics from the design (and therefore create another loophole like what exists today), unless you are buying a glider truck that is goverened to 50mph or less which no one would buy anyways.

Maybe....just MAYBE if the emission laws made sense I would agree with them. But half of what they are doing is shell games.

Ever seen the amount of particulates spewed out of a DPF truck as it purges it's system? Everything that it scrubbed gets spit out the exhaust.

How about all those fancy high dollar tail pipes. Bernoulli's principle at it's finest. And not one ounce of emissions are physically reduced coming out of the engine. JUST at the tailpipe.

Hope you all are happy with how our EPA happy green heads and the Feds are ####### us over. Because the reality is they are hurting us more than helping us.

I WAS at one time all for putting in a wind generator, solar panels and all that at the house. Even so far as to purchasing either a Honda In-sight or a Toyota Prius.

After I took a class for college on Energy and the Environment and the shell games that are played with BTU's, costs and supply systems, it became blatantly clear that what IS needed is a complete and total mindset change on energy.

Want to save energy, look at all the parasitic drains that are in your house. Your TV, your clocks, microwaves, ANYTHING with a memory to it.

Stop trying to make a special trip for each and every "thing" you need from town. Make several trips to town into one. If you need groceries, don't go until you have to work. Vice Versa.

Want another way to save energy and emissions in the transportation industry, consolidate loads more at shippers. There is a willy nilly "ship it ASAP" attitude at a lot of shippers.

One perfect example is a friend who just hauled a SINGLE pallet of frozen fudge bars from MN to NC. Another truck behind him was picking up just 3 pallets going to Florida. According to the guard, this happens ALL the time. Consolidate those loads and pay what it takes to make the labor and shipping right for the truck. It will save a lot on shipping over all as well as overall costs on consumer commodities.

In the mean time, Welcome to Rome.......

Could you tell us the source of your information? Thanks. Too many people post information that scares people and people are blind to believe it. Thanks. I really don't see a speed limiter on trucks, if there were true there would be a speed limiter on cars. Let's be real here.

Some Canadian province(s) allready have them on trucks, cannot remember which one(s).

The EU has had them for years, again only on trucks.

That is as real as it gets.

Rollin coal, maybe the goverment is preparing you for what the market will force on you anyway.
Have you seen how the price off diesel has risen in the last years?
And we are in a slow economy right now.
What will happen with the oilprice if the economy recovers?

I'm a big fan off the old hoods but they will be killed off by the "market".(as working trucks,i do hope a lot survive as "toys")

I forgot to tell the speed in EU.
    It is...............................85km/h which is 52mph.
They do allow a margin off 5km/h so 55mph is it.
Geez...........now which state on the West Coast does that remind you off? :biggrin_25521:

    Capitalist supply and demand,

The supply is still there, the demand is being forced to decrease. The price will go up. If you get RIGHT down to it, in 1990, it cost you $40 to fill up that tank on the land yacht you drove. It STILL costs me $40 to fill up my little econobox Civic that I now drive for a daily driver. I just use a lot less gas to do it.

This is America, not Canada Mr. Daf. I seriously doubt we will see speed limiters on trucks. Just because Canada and EU have it it, does NOT mean we are going to get it. More conspiracy theories with out solid proof.
