    we reap what we sow.

In our case, we have sown our government.

CNG and LNG is coming, its just a matter of time and a race of who can get their engine out first. I have been seeing more of them and I believe that next year I will see a lot more. It will make sense for a regional truck to use it. Let's say Swift has a dedicated route in which they have a filling station at points in which they will not run out of fuel. It would make $ sense for them to use it. That is where the money is, follow it and you will see.

So what is the general consenus here? Sell/trade the old iron off now while there is a very strong market for it, and get one of these new trucks? Or drive it until you can't get parts anymore or buy good old diesel fuel? I would like to keep my ol kw, but want to stay in the industry for many more years to come, and 2-3 years down the road would like to be able to get some money out it. More than just scrap price. So I keep fighting with myself on lettin ol oscar go down the road now, or later?

To try to force you to buy a new one. Because they can. Because they probably will. Because they are a bunch of broke idiots that need to get money from nothing. Because the epa thinks we are killing all the trees. Because the dirty filthy smog cloud that hangs over LA is all our fault, and not the billions of cars running around with only one person in them. So maybe the question should be, why wouldn't they tax old trucks?

there are some pretty lame ### loads that go on trucks that don't need to.

Single pallets of ice cream bars that are -10F loads. Only followed by a truck with 3 pallets going to a close enough state that it MAKES SENSE to put two partials into a single truck or more.

We do enough stupid moves ourselves with some of the logistics folks that are managing freight.

Sure they can and may impose some form of tax on older trucks. But why let your paranoia gland run wild. I had no problem getting a new glider with a pre-egr engine in it. I guess I just don't sit around and worry about what the government will do next. I do stay in touch with my hired help in office and try to sway them from doing this nonsense, but I don't worry each and every day that they might anyway.

Look. They could have done the same for autos and pickups, but they haven't. The normal attrition will gradually reduce the non-current EPA stuff into the dust bin of history. We are just in the transition stage right now. Most of the major fleets and even smaller ones are buying the EPA friendly stuff, with some of them doing it to show their customers how "green" they are. It is only a very few of us in the broad scheme of things that are holding onto older stuff or going with glider trucks. It just isn't a big enough blip on the radar. Even on this forum when it is discussed, there are a large portion of folks that are skiddish about doing the glider thing. And there are a lot of fleets that don't even have a clue that they could do a glider truck. Hardly a day goes by that when it is brought up, those that I talk with had no clue you could even get a new truck with a pre-egr engine in it, let alone any of them that would actually do it themselves after learning about it. It sure isn't the hot topic in any of the trucking equipment magazines, and those editors are not chomping at the bit to have articles about such things in their rags.

Those that seem to focus in on some fear of what the government may do in the future need to take a chill pill and find some sideline activity to take their mind off of trucking once in a while. The stress will kill you.
