To dodge a pan handler

No I can't. #### them.

 

I tried to dodge a panhandler today. Turns out she just wanted to give me some homemade cookies and wish me a merry Christmas.

It was very nice of her.

 

These people make more money than we do. They do not work, do not have to deal with dot, and get to go home every night.

Instead, why not be generous with an extra large tip for those who actually work those minimum wage jobs cleaning the truckstop showers and serving your meals? You can bet your money is going to be put to a much better use than giving it to the professional beggar.

 

And it's worth saying that the transient nature of our business more than anything else puts a target on our backs when it comes to scammers and thieves.

 

3 of us up in DC a number of years ago, as we approached the restaurant a bum was trying to make eye contact, O'l John throwed his hand out at the bum
And ask him for a $... Bum didn't know what to say. You make eye contact and they are sure to pounce.

 

I wonder if that would work with lot lizards.

"Want a date?"

"Sure but I don't work for free."

 

Uh yeah, but can you afford the CURE? If there even IS a cure. . .

 

It's called marriage. Oh wait you meant STDs, I thought you meant dating.

I just give them a few bucks if I have it at hand. Sometimes take them inside and buy them a meal or shower. I can't make church so I consider that paying my tithes and offerings. Of course I keep an eye out for the obvious liar but I don't care what they run off and do with it that's their action to answer for. I find usually that when you give...it comes back. I've had countless freebies come my way when I really needed them so who am I to turn my nose up to the next man

 

Just happened tonight...

Was fueling in West Memphis and a man approaches with the usual storyline of "I'm not trying to pull a sob story on you"etc... said he needed bus fare to get to his home in Hillsboro Tn to get home to his family for the holidays , even though it was going to be late.

Well... being the kind soul that I am , I told him , " ya know , I'm going pretty close to Hillsboro tonight (Chattanooga) and I'll be able to get you within probably 15 miles of your house and you won't have to worry about a bus ticket ! FREE!!"

The excuses started flying then. "Well, I've got my bags over at this other place"... "I'm not sure who'd come pick me up"... "the bus terminal is just a block from my house".. on and on.

I said. . "That's what I thought".

I would have taken him to Hillsboro.

I called his bluff.

 

The problem with that is that there is so many I mean if ya gave all of em a buck or two why that can easily be 20/30 bucks a day.
