If a family lost their home in a fire you bet I'd offer them a place to stay till how ever long it takes to get back on their feet.i would be helping them with free aid for clothing whatever they needed I'd be there.I don't see any of us being cold heartless and no compassion for the homeless but cautious.a lot of these bums need money for drugs and booze not food.also a lot of these people aren't exactly food deprived.

Don't give me that. My house burned 3 days before Xmas. A long story but it happened, and nobody was helping me. Strap on the boots and get to work. I had to work for it and so should everyone else.

At least half of the homeless are where they are cause of drug and alcohol abuse.

I rented a room. Like I said. People need to get to work. Most people are an inch away from homelessness because of bad decisions on their part. Trust me, that's an ongoing theme looking at some threads here.

I DO NOT support panhandlers. Period. I give generously to local organizations like Salvation Army, St Vincent de Paul, and a local community center. These organizations have programs that help the needy, should they choose to attend them. Many do not make that choice, finding it more to their liking to beg.

When you give to a panhandler, are you helping them, or enabling them?

I am sorry that happened but the people who didn't help need to have their butts kicked from here to Japan. Everybody needs help at some point in their lives and they should get it. Don't let the fact that you didn't change your humanity, or lack thereof.

I am sorry, but that is total crap. I know people who are near homelessness not because of bad decisions, not because they are lazy or don't want to work. They simply can't make ends meet no matter how hard they try.

bad decisions are different then losing a home from a fire.that person is already working and if I can save him money from renting a hotel then I'm going to do it and he can use his paychecks towards an apartment.
