I had a guy asking me for money for a sandwich because he was hungry and had not eaten in days. I offered him my untouched unopened sandwich. He refused, and said he needed money. I told him to f off.

I speak fluent German, so it worked well for me last time.

Talked to couple guys they wanted to polish my wheels, was at Mortons in Vegas.
They wouldn't give up either. Tried to 'show me'/demonstrate what they meant.
    Really pretty funny.

The most extreme cases I've seen are in China. Someone will be kneeling beside what looks like a dead person wrapped up in sheets laying on the sidewalk. The person kneeling is begging for money because his brother, mother, co-worker, etc. died and he needs money to ship the body home. Sometimes they take turns being the dead person. Within 3 or 4 blocks you will see this same thing several times; fake dead people laying everywhere.

I have never been on the street. But what I HAVE done is work my arse off to keep a roof over my head and my bills paid.
There was a time in my life when I was pretty down and out. My day job was shagging parts around Denver for a radio parts house. My first part time after that, was going directly to a gas station and working there until they closed at ten. Then I went to a local diner, had a bite to eat there, and bused tables and washed dishes for three to four hours. Go home, fall into bed, up in the morning and go back to my parts delivery job.
On weekends I drove Yellow Cab and/or Grayline bus tours. I just have very little sympathy for folks who cannot make do for themselves.
So call me hard hearted, I really don't care.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that during the above time span, I was living in a run down motel room, (rent by the hour, night, week or month.)
