Based on what you saw on the board, I would probably stick with a flat as well. Obviously your situation is different than mine

Between that low set tractor and a low set trailer, you would need to hire a midget to drive it! ;)

That would make the decision easy. He could rent one for a while and see how the freight holds up. If he is getting good rates then he can buy his own trailer and make more money than if he continued renting one. I suppose he could also rent a step deck from them and see if there is any difference in his revenue. It would be better if he could buy his own trailer as soon as possible.

I talked about this a while back. the reason I like flat is 2-3 years ago, I had a semi dedicated run. skidded coils that had to be rear load/unload. if I had a step, I could not of pulled them loads, & they started 15 miles from home to g.r. mi & reloaded 50 mi north in white cloud mi to within 1 mile from my home. have a lot of rear load /unload that can only be hauled by flat. on my new dedicated gig, I could use step, but never know how long this gig will last.

I have had those glasses, they work at about a range of 10 yards. Once you cross the fence though, the side you stepped from typically seemed better.
Ran over them after they drained my wallet a few times.

We can load the 51' footer with that light insulation out of Rockford and Tallmadge. So long as it has the 8' top and 40' bottom you're golden my friend.
