I noticed that. I didn't want to bring it up as the thread could quickly turn political. Sounds like you're already aware of that particular situation so no need to get into it.retlow8 Thanks this.

Years ago, you'd get 10 guys telling you to go for it ( I did), but today, that number is reversed, and 1 of 10 will tell you to go for it. The O/O's that are doing ok, probably have certain accounts for years, but rest assured, you'll get the crap nobody else wants, and you HAVE to do it, the bills keep coming in. The bottom gonna fall out completely in this economy soon, and the last thing you want, is a truck to pay for. And I don't buy that, "O/O's will get more because they have a truck to pay for". Baloney, you'll find, you don't have many friends once you have your own truck ( except other O/O's, that is)
DUNE-T, retlow8, DSK333 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Of course only one half of the SE tax is deductible. As an employee, your still responsible for the other half.
Btw, Illinois participates in the health insurance exchange. Structure your business in the right way and you can enjoy a huge insurance subsidy from all those tax paying company drivers, just sayin'
Best of luck to the OP.DSK333 Thanks this. -
Before you take the plunge, (they all seem to regardless what is said).... shop/check for truck insurance quotes. What you find out will give you a rude awakening of the cost, even though you have a few years under your belt.

LOL! THE SKY IS FALLING!
Some people say why? Others say, why not?
Becoming an owner operator with my own authority back in December of 2015, booking my own loads and handling every detail of my business right down to the most trivial aspect of it, was the best decision I could of ever made.
I wouldn't trade it for anything...
Obviously, others mileage may vary
201 Thanks this. -
Roughly $100 for every $1000 your truck is worth, correct? So a $100000 truck would cost $1000 a month.

I would be buying my truck, not through the company, pulling their trailer and putting the company's name on the door.
