Trucking is a service business. Trucking does not produce a product, only time and place utility. After Deregulation in the 1980s, entry into the trucking industry became a rate-cutting free-for-all race to the bottom. Rarely, a company is expelled for gross safety violations. Then, they change their name and operate again. Whenever the economy slows, rates take a hit and trucks are parked. Statistics prove this, but the process is painful. Free enterprise is still the best system.
