I dont think you can compare the vanes wide open on your vgt to a 1.32 ar fixed housing. Your not going to get the same results. Ultimately if its max jake performance your after your best to stick with your vgt.

Does your truck have jake brakes? I'm assuming so...in that case, I don't think your engine brake performance would suffer too much. If you have exhaust brakes, then it would change I'd imagine. This would be an interesting test.

The ddec5 has a vgt turbo. The ecm commands the vanes to close when jake is on. This produces more boost into the engine and more back pressure in the exaust manifold. So yes it does make a big difference in jake performance.

I spend my most all my time at 1450- 1500.
So when I let off at that rpm I need the jake to work.
Runing that rpm and Pulling what I pull my ifta reports are high 8 to low 9 mpg

8-9 mpg feels like pipe dream for my 14l pulling a high mount car trailer. 5.5 no matter the highway speed. I'd stay with what works especially since it's capable of more power if it's wanted.

I went with a Vgt turbo and happy I did,the jake works awesome at the lower rpms.
My fuel mileage seems the same and I'm happy with that too.
I also have some programming work done that helps a lot.
I also pull a high mount but it's a lite one.
My truck is a single axel Columbia and truck and trailer together full of fuel and equipment only weighs 29,000#.
My gvw is set to 54,500 # but I rarely see anything north of 53,000#s when pulling the 6 cars that I pull.
I run religiously 62-64 mph and most all miles are long haul interstate.
All and all its been a great set up for the operation I run.

I own a 14L with a Borg 171702. I would say I lost about 25 percent efficiency of my jakes, so I adjusted my driving style. And yes, higher RPM with the jakes does get it closer to the VGT. The move to the Borg with a tune was the best thing I ever did. No more strange intermittent power loses- smooth idle - no more whistle thru the exhaust. All in all, i"m happy. But wouldn't you know it, as soon I got that truck dialed in, I bought a Cascadia so I can go to California. So anyone looking for a high roof Century with a smooth running motor with great power, hit me up.

No turbo lack? What MPG are you getting with this turbo? You are in Las Vegas? I can actually come and see your truck, if the price is good. Where do you park? Moton's, Pilot, Petro or TA?
