i did that 2 weeks ago. it was a hot item. needed to restore power. the load was light and small enough to haul on my backi. the drive was only 300 miles. going from denver to a power plant in nowhere wyoming. so i get there. looks like all the lights are on to me. hope to get unloaded at 9 p.m. they don't receive till 7 a.m. which turned out to be 9 a.m. but they didn't order or need the load. instead. it was needed on the utah/idaho border in hicksville. so i go drive some more. there was no rush for the load. there was no power outage. and the load was the wrong stuff. but they unloaded me.
the trip started at 5 per mile. and ended up being 7 per mile for a load that wasn't even needed. 300 miles turned into 550.

TONU.... Alway collect it, someone needs to pay for your services. Just not right for the broker to get away with not doing their due diligence
6wheeler Thanks this. -
You can put money on it that the broker will charge the shipper for additional miles, extra stops and additional detention or wait time. The shipper will settle with an amount, that will be fair.
Problem is the broker will do their very best not to give the truck a penny.
If the broker refuses to pay the truck then bill the shipper. Legally the shipper ultimately responsible and when the broker finds out you'll go to their customer direct, things might change. If not... bill the shipper.
just saying...6wheeler Thanks this. -
Rent a car, a motel, plan a vacation, you name it. Everything has a cancelition fee. And sending an 18 wheeler down the road without giving 24 hours notice should have a canceltation fee also. Lately I have gotten even 1 hours notice of canceling a load before pick-up.

I would urge against trying to collect from the shipper it is stated in your contract you can not contact the shipper to collect any payments they could sue you if you try it.

TQL sent me on a load they screwed up big time i drove like 160 miles to pick up a load normally i dont go that far for a load but it was in idaho and loads were pretty scarce so i made it all the way to the shipper and they said they couldnt load y trailer cause that load called for a flatbed and i had a van i called the broker and he admitted it was all his fault apologized for the confusion and also stated he would either find me a load in the area to get out or would pay the tonu well he never called me back and i got my own load out and i sent them an invoice for $250 TONU that was 5 months ago and they never paid me for it either

Tell 'em you're gonna call their bonding company. Burn that bridge!
stayinback Thanks this. -
Did you have it in your contract or confirmation sheet?
I always put the truck not used fee on each confirmation sheet when I sent it back to them. And that would get me paid if not used.
But if not in contract or confirmation sheet for the load, you will be quite lucky to get it, and not sure you could file on the bond.
Especially with brokers, everything needs to be in writing or it doesn't exist. -
A costly mistake, I don't get why you wouldn't say you are in route to begin with?
-
Sometimes you just have to learn from your mistakes and move on. It sucks, but I'll bet it'll be a cold day in hades before you forget about TQL and TONU.
