TQL has been good to me but some newb broker boned me yesterday.
We had discussed the load thoroughly and it was her fault. After I arrived on site the shipper called TQL before I could and let them know what was up. After that the broker would not return my calls or respond to my email. I am sending them a bill for 150.00 and we shall see. This is my first TONU charge.Last edited: Oct 1, 2016

Your kidding Right?
You have every Right to Collect freight Charges in any manner (Whether it be for a TONU-Demurrage-Linehaul) If a Broker Fails to pay............
These Shippers/customers Want to know Whats Going on with their monies.......Don't Let these brokers scare you with their Half-Wit manipulative strategies coercing you carriers on who you can contact if they were to fail to pay your invoices......
Yes, It is unethical to back-solicit a brokers Customer in MOST cases......But I've Done it several Times But I Don't recommend you guys With Low experience to do it.
I've Done it Just "Because" I Felt the broker was "Gouging" and 'Lying" To me. 2 things I Don't play around with......Yes, You Will Lose any Further relationship with that Broker, And Its a dangerous Game to Play, But If you play it Right... You can Put a Small Dent in the 3pl community.
Again,Its Not about trying to 'take' a customer..It's a Point That I Make about Truthfulness..You Don't Lie to me in business...Sure that Customer will use me, But I Don't expect loyalty Nor Should I.Last edited: Oct 1, 2016

I read all these horror stories from the large broker operations but the trucks continue to take their loads off the boards. Our TONU is minimum $250 plus expenses to the truck, in writing. I wonder why a truck would accept anything less in the load confirmation just because the load comes from a big company?

Uusually my TONU is $250. Once I got one for $700 though. I was headed from Portland to Seattle on a Friday and there was a huge shortage of trucks. I usually do that lane for around $600 but that day everyone had $700-$800 listed on all the loads. The broker that called me was desperate and we agreed on $850. I got to the shipper and they dicked me around for 3 hours and then canceled at 3pm. By then it was too late for anything else. I called the guy all pissed off and told him that I would've made at least $700 today if this load didn't get canceled. Surprisingly, he agreed and paid me. I've been working with him quite a bit lately, he's one of the more honest brokers.
NavigatorWife and Ruthless Thank this. -
If it has been listed for 800, you could have gotten a $1000

You're not owed a TONU at all unless you actually arrive at the pickup in my opinion. You can't actually expect the broker to simply take your word for it. If you lost the load early in the day you should still be able to find another piece of freight. It sucks for you and your dispatcher but the shoe is on the other foot quite a lot. Similarly I don't get angry when a truck falls out early enough in the day for me to find a replacement. If you fall out after 4pm you're basically dead to me though.

With some brokers it is. We don't all follow the same exact strategy.

You must haul some very consistent freight. I can't imagine a customer agreeing to that up front.
