I recently graduated in December and have been trying to find a local job with no luck. Everyone wants at least 3 months experience. With that being said I've been looking into regional jobs.
One company, Werner, had a rep come into our class in October and talk to us. At the time it sounded like everything he said was too good to be true. I reached out to their recruiting department to see what they had to offer. The woman I spoke with said she could put me on a Dollar General account covering MD, PA, DE, and NJ with weekends home. She said pay was $.67/mile making $81,000+ a year. I know there is a lot of manual labor involved since you unload your truck and I'm fine with that to keep myself from remaining too sedentary while driving.
Does anyone know if these are realistic numbers for pay? I don't know anyone who works for Werner so I figured someone on this forum might be able to answer this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Too good to be true?

Yeesh. From what I’ve read on here Dollar Store accounts are a killer for a new driver. Tight lots, blindside backs and idiots in car. Too many dings and then you have a bunch of preventable accidents on your record. Do as you wish tho. You might love it. I’m not sure but used to Werner didn’t have APU’s and they were real strict on idling, but that may have all changed that’s just recollection of something I saw browsing a forum thread one time.

There’s a reason they are offering higher pay and home time, think about it. Experienced drivers know to stay away from the dollar accounts, I would keep looking.

Dollar anything is bad news for new drivers.

Thanks for all of the fast replies so far. I'm located on the eastern shore of MD. I have tanker and double/triples. Hazmat is a pita since our MVA is appt only, no appts until February, and now I have to find a class with new regulations in February.
I've also been speaking with Van Wyk running a reefer unit. They run to my area and told me weekends at home.Pamela1990, Vic Firth and Chinatown Thank this. -
Van Wyk you’ll be in Iowa quite a bit, not a bad thing and weekends off is probably a reset.
faux_maestro, Bean Jr. and Pamela1990 Thank this. -
Van Wyk would be better than Werner Dollar General account.

If you're also interested in local jobs, we'll need to know the town/city you're close to.
