    Tiny State.
It's like seeing Peter Dinklage step out of an extended-frame Western Star that carries an over-weight permit.

You do a second take, then realize 'Ah, that's called 'compensation".

You'd be surprised at what they do on some of these superloads. The deal is, most authorities won't mess with them because they assume everything is in order and it's just a headache to fool with them. You can't just pull these loads over anywhere. Also, setups like these almost never get weighed. They are too big to go on a platform scale and most officers aren't eager to put portables under each axle. You've also got to consider the fact that a good platform trailer operator can make a portable scale read anything he wants it to on a single axle or a group.

They will probably get fined a hefty fine. They may make them trans-load it to another trailer. If they just decide they need more axles, it would be fairly easy just to add more axle lines to the existing setup.

The biggest cost is probably going to be in shipping delays. Sounds line they were already behind schedule.

Agreed. Besides, what do they really think they can transfer the load to that can handle that type of payload weight? A platform IS the only option. They may make them add more lines, but not really necessary unless they just want a longer bridge span. The currrent setup if the reported weight is correct is enough already.
A platform has 8 tires/axle so the way I'm reading things that's right around 5k/tire, which equates to 20k/axle, that's basically North American standard permit load weight limits.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying what they did was "right", but you don't build and plan a 1/2million pound generator overnight. How long have they been waiting for this permit? Believe me, some states will essentially hold trucking co's hostage for extortion on loads such as this. It's possible this was a case of "civil disobedience". I know of a couple members on here that work for very reputable companies that did exactly that before...

I agree for the most part but Ohio will usually verify the weights before movement begins. They'll bring enough portable scales to weigh every axle at the same time so it wouldn't matter what the operator did to any one axle because they're all getting weighed together. I know they'll call in the county guys to use they're plates.

Maryland will weigh these lds also.
Like @johndeere4020 has stated, they will bring in more scales if needed
Barnhart has had their platform trls weighed even for a 10 mile move...
