No, I don't believe the uninformed new driver really should have a choice. (S)He doesn't know what's best without being out there yet. And yes, trainers are hit or miss, I agree.

As for this whole issue, me thinks we'll just have to agree to disagree, as we won't be changing each others' minds.

I'm older than you and worked 30 years in "white collar" jobs. I recently retired from my last office job - really "semi-retired", who can afford to not work these days? The day after my retirement I began attending a private truck driving school. I successfully worked side by side with students half my age, finished the school and obtained my Class A CDL with endorsements (I paid for the training out of my own pocket since we don't have a community college truck driving program in our region). I had several "pre-hire" offers from major couriers and am now in the process of getting on board with a courier. If you're in good health and have a desire for truck driving, you can do it!

Been driving for 37 years, out of Chicago, Ill. Everyone that wants to make a career change, you can do it. My wifes brother went back to school at the age of 58, graduated Western University, North Carolina.
Got a masters degree, in Bussiness, Engineering. Still no work. But on S.S. disabillity. Has a job, well not getting paid, but like an intern at a radio station. Things dont happen overnight, they will happen gradually,
patience gets you everywhere. Just keep trying, dont give up. Good Luck

I truly wish to thank everyone for their valuable input on this post. Now then, point me in a good direction as to what company is a good one to get on with AFTER attaining my CDL on my own through a Community College Program?

Thank you all again and I appreciate your time and information.

THAT'S THE BEST ADVISE I'VE SEEN! most "trainers" have about 6 mos. experiance and need trained themselves. it's a great way to pick up someone else' bad habits. community college gives COLLEGE credits, so that's a win-win. avoid like the plague any compnay that pays your way thru a school, as that company gets a kickback, and, will sue you if you don't last thru the contract. (yeah, it's a contract, and yeah, they can and will sue you........and win).

before you head out onto the open road, i certainly would check out local opportunities. sometimes smaller local companies will take a chance on a new person. there's good money in some cases for local delivery guys.

    best of luck.

Theres some very good advice above, Than it seems a Swift recruiter popped in, my advice is to stay AWAY from all the biggies, esp for training, go to private or community unless you don't mind being owned.< Period

Who is supposed to be the Swift recruiter?

If there is a recruiter from any company you need to contact either Mastertech or Admin.
