I totally get rhe patience when it comes to big decisions. I wrestled with the decision to go trucking for over a year.

I drove my dad's truck for Mayflower in the late '60s then in '73 went into the construction business until the 2008 crash. I got my CDL, drove another guy's truck for awhile, bought an old truck in 2012 got my authority in 2016 and last week paid off my 2012 tractor and chassis and grossed $255k in the intermodal industry in Washington state. Oh, did I mention I was 64 in 2008? Oh, did I mention I've had type 2 diabetes since 2001? Don't let anyone tell you you're too old.Tombstone69, dwells40, Zer0chick and 1 other person Thank this.

I got back into trucking at the age of 58. That was five years ago.
A little over three years ago I switched from dry van to flatbed. That first week nearly killed me. Too sore to either lay down or get up from the bunk.
Now? I wish I had kept with trucking as a youngster, instead of going off trying to make the most of a college education...
Here's another aspect about YOUR decision, the VAST majority of insurance companies, and hence the trucking companies that might hire you, WANT mature folks behind the wheel. IMHO you are in the sweet spot for getting hired. If you have ANY interest in pursuing a second career in trucking, then you should first pray, and invoke the name of the saint @Chinatown to bless your journey.
THEN you should stop standing on the sidelines, hemming and hawing, and act on some good advice.
P.S. I'm having the time of my life. Jump on in, the water's fine!lovesthedrive Thanks this. -
Oddly, just about everywhere I stop, I am surrounded by people that should have listened.Lepton1 Thanks this.

Im 56 , and just started driving. , Jan 7 driving and delivering picking up engines transmissions , rear ends with pallet jacks , forklifts ect. . I never thought about age once. I aint got no choice. I count my blessings. its 60 hrs a week. i maxed out my time Friday and couldnt unload. i had a cdl from the early 90s and was driving the short bus kids for about 3 months and i never let my cdl go as a back up plan. Youth and enthusiasm can always be overcome by old age and treachery!!
