I admire your Dad and it shows that you do too. I don't see myself ever stop working.

CC You should be good to go, Check with your Dr. to see what they think of you jumping in a truck, they know you best next to yourself! If you feel you can get in and out of a truck go for it! I would certainly want you out here as a new guy then a 21 year old that is young and inexperienced a d not knowing what this clown is going to do next!

Ozark may be a good choice; no NYC, no Canada, 100% no-touch freight.

Howard Transportation with a terminal in Kenly, NC would be one worth looking into. They mostly haul their own products. They hire new CDL grads; check their website.

Capt'n,, you have me beat by only 5 years. I jumped into Class A at 59 (had a CDL B for past 30+ years).
Age wouldn't be a limiting factor. Only limits are your abilities, DOT related health, and anything negative related to driving.

Why did you say, tho, "Quite frankly, it (physical "hiccups") is one of my major concerns. Not so much about me but about my concern for other drivers. Actually, that might be the deciding factor."
That statement concerns me. Can you tell us why?

    pattyj and Skydivedavec Thank this.

I am trying to be realistic. I believe that health wise, I will be able to handle the job duties. But I also know that I am 64 and not 35. I have to be 100 percent convinced that I am able to handle the job without putting any other driver in danger. Maybe that is over thinking it, but I must be convinced that I can handle what I perceive to be an enormous responsibility.

This is pretty much the key to succeeding in this work, and probably in life.

We have a guy here in town that is eighty two and still turns a Chicago each day, (three and one half hours away), and gets around as well as anyone, lots of drivers around in there seventies, I think it isn't an age factor as much as it is an attitude factor.
